Yatha Sidhra - A Meditation Mass (1974 German Progressive Rock Psych)

BANDA ALEMÃ OBSCURA E UM ALBUM RARO, YATHA SIDHRA FAZIA UM SOM PRA LÁ DE MALUCO E MEDITATIVO!! FLAUTA INDIANA SINTETISADOR, PIANO ELÉTRICO, GUITARRA DE 12 CORDAS, PERCUSSÃO E OUTROS INSTRUMENTOS NUMA HARMONIA DE PIRARA A CABEÇA DE QUALQUER ENVENENADO!! ALTAMENTE RECOMENDADO PRA QUEM QUISER DAR UMA RELAXADA E CURTIR UM SOM ALTAMENTE VIAJANTE!! ABRA UM VINHO, SENTE OU DEITE NO CHÃO E COMECE A VIAGEM!! VENENO!!

After several vain attempts in many bands, the brothers Rolf and Klaus Fichter finally found in 1973 their own musical identity. At this time the band original name BRONTOSAURUS changes to YATHA SIDHRA, a musical name which is really suitable for the new musical orientation taken by the two musicians. Particularly attentive to ethnic and meditative influences in popular music, they began to work on a long & epic piece called "A Meditation Mass" (under the influence of the famous Achim Reichel, the virtual member of the band who produces the album in 1974).The first intention was to create a dreamy musical landscape where the Moog synth, the flute & traditional "percussive" instruments play an important part. Seen as a concept album, "A Meditation Mass" is almost exclusively instrumental. A long suite divided in two themes with two variations for each one. A beautiful and ecstatic musical journey. Their sound oscillates between "pastoral" folk music, spacey rock with the addition of discreet jazzy accents. After this impressive work, YATHA SIDHRA is dissolved. At the beginning of the eighties, the brothers Fichter formed a new band called DREAMWORLD. A more synth meditative pop orientated music but it's worth checking.

Ramatam - Ramatam (1971 USA Hard Rock)

BOA BANDA DE HARD ROCK QUE TINHA A PARTICIPAÇÃO DO BATERISTA MITCH MITCHELL EX-BATERISTA DA JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE E DO GUITARRISTA MIKE PINERA DO IRON BUTTERFLY E BLUES IMAGE!! TAMBÉM TINHA A PARTICIPAÇÃO DE UMA MULHER NA GUITARRA CHAMADA APRIL LAWTON QUE ERA CONSIDERADA A MELHOR GUITARRISTA FEMININA DO ROCK E QUE ROUBAVA A CENA COM SUA PERFORMANCE E BELEZA!! A SONORIDADE DA BANDA ERA MUITO RICA E AGREGAVA HARD, SOUL, PSICODELIA E BLUES!! OS CARAS ABRIRAM SHOWS DE EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER E DOS EAGLES EM 1972 E APÓS ISSO MITCH E MIKE CAÍRAM FORA!! BOM VENENO!!

Ramatam was a 1970s rock band featuring Mike Pinera on guitar and vocals, Mitch Mitchell on drums, and April Lawton on lead guitar. Tom Dowd produced their self-titled debut album in 1972. Pinera was known for his work with Blues Image ("Ride Captain Ride") and later Iron Butterfly. Mitchell was previously with the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

After some changes in membership, the band released its second and final album, In April Came the Dawning of the Red Suns (1973). Pinera and Mitchell had departed from the band at that point, leaving the band's focus entirely on Lawton. The band fractured under the pressure of life on the road and broke up in 1974.

Ramatam was notable for having April Lawton, a female lead guitarist. At the time of the first album's release, female rock musicians who actively played and participated in the band were relatively rare, particularly female musicians who played aggressive lead guitar, as Lawton did. She was favorably compared to Jeff Beck by Guitar Player Magazine.

April Lawton: guit.

Tommy Sullivan: keyb., reeds, voc.

Thundertree - Thundertree (1970 USA Psych Rock)

O TECLADISTA JOHN MIESEN APÓS O TÉRMINO DA BANDA "GOOD IDEA" FORMOU ESTA NOVA BANDA CHAMADA THUNDERTREE QUE GRAVOU ESTE BOM ALBUM DE ROCK PSYCH COM PEQUENAS PITADAS PROGRESSIVAS!! VENENO RARO E RECOMENDÁVEL!!

Thundertree - Thundertree CD. "When the band The Good Idea disintegrated in 1969, organist John Miesen landed a deal with Roulette on the basis of an unreleased The Good Idea track which he later explored with Thundertree. Thundertree, whose members hailed from Minneapolis, was formed by Miesen and vocalist/guitarist Bill Hallquist to exploit the former's fortuitous Roulette contract. The band managed only one eponymous album for Roulette (SR-42038) which appeared in 1970, but a combination of psychedelia and progressivism turned a highly-experimental album into an increasingly hard to find collectable. The emphasis is very much on psych guitar and organ, and generally the album bristles with new ideas and innovation. Strangely, given that most of the band's songs were written by Miesen, he has disappeared without trace, while Hallquist went on to record two solo albums under the name of Persephone Billy, both of which, with their pleasant, dreamy folk-rock style, have become minor collectables in their own right."

Info:
A Minneapolis band whose album transgresses psychedelia and progressivism. It's now becoming a minor collectable and is harder to find. The medley on Side Two is full of variety and interest but the highlights are the opening cut, Head Embers, which has lots of good guitar work and the mildly psychedelic, At The Top Of The Stairs. There are a few awful tracks, but there are lots of ideas on this album and if you're into psychedelic guitar and keyboards this is one for you.

The band evolved out of The Good Idea. When that band had split in 1969, John Miesen landed a deal with Roulette on the basis of an unreleased The Good Idea track, 12:25, which was used for one side of the Thundertree album. Bill Hallquist later recorded two solo albums. The first under the name of Billy, Persephone (Orion 20510) 1972, although he's more often referred to as Persephone Billy, due to a typographical error on the sleeve. On this he was helped out by, amongst others, Rick Lia Braaten (also ex-Thundertree). The album, which is pretty rare and sought-after, consists of pleasant, dreamy folk-rock and comes in a striking black and white cover. After a second, Travelin' (Mill City) 1976, Bill Hallquist did some session work including Kevin Odegaard's Silver Lining album. (Kevin, in turn played on one of the songs on Dylan's Blood On The Tracks). Bill:- "In 1976 Kevin and I played together in The K.O. Band. Our drummer later became a member of Prince and The Revolution (Bobby Z), and guitar player (Jeff Dayton) currently plays with Glen Campbell. After that I played with a folk trio Macavity with Tim Sparks (Rio Nido), followed by a bar band Cimarron. Later, I wrote/produced radio jingles before becoming Director of Marketing at K-tel here in the U.S. I am still active musically as a songwriter and as a member of Perfectly Loud. The K.O. band did a reunion gig on Sept. 1st, 2000 at a club here in Mpls./St. Paul".

The Grateful Dead - First Album 1967

MINHA HOMENAGEM A ESTA GRANDE BANDA E UM DISCO QUE CONSIDERO "DISCOTECA BÁSICA"!! O PRIMEIRO ALBUM DO GRATEFUL DEAD!! O INÍCIO DE TUDO!! FOLK, ROCK E BLUES NUM GRANDE ALBUM DE ESTRÉIA QUE TRAZIA VERSÕES DE "GOOD MORNING LITTLE SCHOOLGIRL" DO VELHO BLUESEIRO SONNY BOY WILLIAMSON E "VIOLA LEE BLUES" UM CLÁSSICO DOS ANOS 20 DA BANDA JUG BAND BLUES E BASTANTE CONHECIDO PELA VOZ DE JERRY LEE LEWIS!! VENENO ALTAMENTE RECOMENDADO DE UMA BANDA ÍCONE DO "FLOWER POWER" E DO PSICODELISMO DOS ANOS 60!! JERRY GARCIA, O LÍDER, MALUCO BELEZA!!

The Grateful Dead's eponymously titled debut long-player was issued in mid-March of 1967. This gave rise to one immediate impediment -- the difficulty in attempting to encapsulate/recreate the Dead's often improvised musical magic onto a single LP. Unfortunately, the sterile environs of the recording studio disregards the subtle and often not-so-subtle ebbs and zeniths that are so evident within a live experience. So, while this studio recording ultimately fails in accurately exhibiting the Grateful Dead's tremendous range, it's a valiant attempt to corral the group's hydra-headed psychedelic jug-band music on vinyl. Under the technical direction of Dave Hassinger -- who had produced the Rolling Stones as well as the Jefferson Airplane -- the Dead recorded the album in Los Angeles during a Ritalin-fuelled "long weekend" in early 1967. Rather than prepare all new material for the recording sessions, a vast majority of the disc is comprised of titles that the band had worked into their concurrent performance repertoire. This accounts for the unusually high ratio (seven:two) of folk and blues standards to original compositions. The entire group took credit for the slightly saccharine "Golden Road (To Unlimited Devotion)," while Jerry Garcia (guitar/vocals) is credited for the noir garage-flavored raver "Cream Puff War." Interestingly, both tracks were featured as the respective A- and B-sides of the only 45 rpm single derived from this album. The curious aggregate of cover tunes featured on the Dead's initial outing also demonstrates the band's wide-ranging musical roots and influences. These include Pigpen's greasy harp-fuelled take on Sonny Boy Williamson's "Good Morning Little School Girl" and the minstrel one-man-band folk of Jessie "the Lone Cat" Fuller's "Beat It On Down the Line." The apocalyptic Cold War folk anthem "Morning Dew" (aka "[Walk Me Out in The] Morning Dew") is likewise given a full-bodied electric workout as is the obscure jug-band stomper "Viola Lee Blues." Fittingly, the Dead would continue to play well over half of these tracks in concert for the next 27 years.Lindsay Planer, All Music Guide.

Deluxe vinyl edition of Meic Stevens' legendary lost psych-folk classic from 1970. The only album recorded by Stevens in English, 'Outlander' led to him being hailed as 'the new Dylan' at the time, original Warnes Brothers pressings go for up to £500 on ebay.

Meic Stevens may not be a familiar name in much of the world, but in his native Wales the singer-songwriter's stature is often compared to that of Bob Dylan. A local legend whose psych-folk influence can be heard in such contemporary Welsh groups as Super Furry Animals and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, Stevens also founded his country's first independent record company, the estimable Sain label.

Stevens sang mostly in his native language, a political act not unlike speaking Basque in Spain or Cherokee in the U.S. His one English-language album is 1970's Outlander, an outstanding marriage of musicianship and eclecticism. Arising from the same fertile soil as the work of the late-'60s icons, Stevens's album nonetheless manages to avoid easy comparisons. Its jazz-Indo-psych ragas merge seamlessly with its acid folksongs and Dylan-esque meditations on relationships and politics. Performed by a remarkable cast of musicians hand-picked by English rock tastemaker Ian Samwell, Outlander was created with a minimum of rehearsal and consists largely of first takes.

Greeted with critical acclaim upon Outlander's U.K. release, Stevens traveled Stateside for a two-week tour in the summer of 1970. But the album never crossed the Atlantic; its very first U.S. release is this expanded, remastered Rhino Handmade issue. Copies of the LP have fetched upwards of $500 on the collectors' market, a testimony to the enduring quality of its songs. Now, fans can enjoy the original album in its entirety, along with nine bonus tracks, including outtakes, alternate versions, and the 1970 B-side "Blue Sleep." Outlander is available as an individually numbered limited edition of 2,500 copies.

Country Joe & The Fish - C. J. Fish (1970 USA Rock Psycho)

UMA HOMENAGEM DESTE BLOG A ESTA BOA BANDA AMERICANA QUE TINHA UM ESTILO ROCK FOLK PSICODÉLICO E QUE FREQUENTEMENTE FLERTAVA COM BLUES!! OS CARAS ERAM ATIVOS PROTESTANTES CONTRA A GUERRA DO VIETNÃ E QUEM ASSISTIU AO FILME WOODSTOCK SABE BEM DO QUE EU TÔ FALANDO!! UM BELO DISCO E PRA MIM O MELHOR QUE ESTA BANDA GRAVOU!! VENENO DO BOM!!

Country Joe and the Fish went through a personnel change for their fifth album, CJ Fish, adding Greg Dewey, Doug Metzner, and Mark Kapner in place of David Cohen and "Chicken" Hirsh. They retained, however, their primary composers Barry Melton and Country Joe MacDonald, keeping the sound and style of the original band. CJ Fish is not as strong as their other albums, but it does have a few highlights. The content is typical Country Joe and the Fish: more love, less war, and the tunes are only a little fresher than the ideas. On their previous release Here We Are Again, they experimented with various styles. On CJ Fish, they tried to recapture the sound of their previous success, but they "went back to the well" only to find there wasn't much there. Most of the lyrics are thoughtful and bright; many are in rhyme as many of that time were. The overall timbre is interesting, being both joyful and sobering at the same time. Some bright spots in the material are "Hey Bobby," "She's a Bird," and "Hang On," which are delightfully Country Joe. Overall it's not a bad album and no Country Joe and the Fish collection is complete without it.

Wind - Seasons (1971 German Prog Rock)

EXCELENTE BANDA ALEMÃ QUE FAZIA UM ROCK PROGRESSIVO COM VARIAÇÕES PSICODÉLICAS E HEAVY INTERESSANTES ONDE SE DESTACA O ORGAN HAMMOND PODEROSO, VIOLÃO ACUSTICO, PESO EM CERTOS MOMENTOS, ENFIM, TUDO QUE UM BOM PROGRESSIVO PRECISA TER!! A FAIXA "SPRINGWIND" POR EXEMPLO LEMBRA MUITO PINK FLOYD EM SUA MELHOR FASE PSYCH PROG NO FINAL DOS ANOS 60!! ÓTIMO DISCO E UM SOM PROGRESSIVO DIGNO DO INÍCIO DOS ANOS 70!! VENENO RECOMENDADO!!

West Coast 60’s inspired German psych rock band. Their first album "Seasons" (1971) is considered to be a little classic in the early days of progressive rock. It features complex epic songs within heavy rock, psych-spaced out proportions. "Morning" (1973) is a catchy collection of almost conventional heavy rocking songs. Without gaining the commercial success, the band split in 1973. The drummer Lucky Schmidt will pursue his career with the band Aera.

Musicians Steve Leistner (vocals), Thomas Leidenberger (guitar, vocals), Andreas Bueler (bass), Lucian Bueler (keyboards) and Lucky Schmidt (drums, percussion, mellotron) started their recording career with an album of cover versions as Corporal Gander's Fire Dog Brigade: "On The Rocks" (1970). It was recorded before Leistner joined and they adopted the name Wind. In 1971, they recorded the legendary album, "Seasons" - one of the most sought-after German albums nowadays. This was the second of three releases on the budget-priced Plus label. This varied album captured Wind in different moods: "Dear Little Friend" was a thundering heavy rocker and "What Do We Do Now" - a vintage progressive rock anthem with fine use of organ and flute. "Romance" is a charming interlude for piano and "Now It's Over" had melancholic, folky vibes like Pink Floyd circa 1969. "Springwind" had haunting vocal lines, and finally came the 15-minute closing track, "Red Morningbird" with its floating, moody folk whispering, interrupted by some outrageously heavy outbursts. This is one of the classics of German progressive rock that will always be remembered for its powerful Hammond organ dueling with electric guitar sound; it should appeal both to fans of progressive heavy rock and those of folk-rock, as performed by the artists on the Pilz label.

Track list
01 - What De We Do Now. 8:23
02 - Now It's Over. 4:21
03 – Romance. 1:30

Thors Hammer - Thors Hammer (1971 Danish Prog Rock Jazz Fuzzion)

EXCELENTE BANDA VINDA DA DINAMARCA QUE FAZIA UM ROCK PROGRESSIVO COM MUITAS FUZÕES!! SAXOFONE E ORGAN HAMMOND TOCADOS COM MAESTRIA SÃO PREDOMINANTES EM TODAS AS FAIXAS!! ÓTIMO E RARO VENENO!!

Excellent Danish Progressive fusion, great saxaphones and hammond on this one and hard to find. They were one of those groups that promised much but never went further than an eponymous debut album. Stylistically, their music was close to Burnin' Red Ivanhoe, Blast Furnace and the jazzy style of bands like Traffic. Neehammer's sax riffing is predominant on the album's five tracks, also frequently augmented by organ and electric guitar. "Mexico" (6:21) is the most effective track (paraphrasing the well-known sax riff from Traffic's "Freedom Rider"), while the longest tracks are less purposeful (due to the slightly repetitive solo sections).

Peter Nielsen - vocals
Michael Bruun - guitar, piano
Jesper Neehammer - saxes
Henrik Langkilde - organ, piano
Henrik Bodtcher - bass
Simon Koppel - drums

2. Not Worth Saying (13:09)
3. Blind Gypsy Woman (5:05)

Velvet Night - Velvet Night (1969 US Psychedelic Rock)

NÃO TENHO MUITAS INFORMAÇÕES SOBRE ESTA BANDA A NÃO SER QUE O ALBUM É DE EXTREMA RARIDADE E O SOM QUE OS CARAS FAZIAM ERA PSICODELIA BEM TÍPICA DA ÉPOCA COM ALGUMAS VARIAÇÕES!! PRA QUEM GOSTA DE JEFFERSON AIRPLANE CERTAMENTE VAI GOSTAR DO ESTILO DOS CARAS!!

In 1968 Jimmy Curtiss who headed the 60s group the Hobbits founded his own production company PERCEPTION along with Steve Kanyon. Before he would start his own record label by the same name, he was involved in two groups, The Bag and Velvet Night.

Velvet Night was a six-piece including Frank Chiaro (bass-vocals), Tony Faranda (guitars-vocals), Doug Catuogno (percussion-vocals), Lynn Boccumini (vocals), Vinnie Nisi (keyboards-lead vocals) and Peter Fuino (saxophone-recorder-lead vocals). Besides strangely arranged cover versions of two Tim Hardin songs, a Donovan song, and a Cream medley, there are songs by Curtiss and Kanyon plus one credited to the band's organ player Vinnie Nisi.

The record has a rather weird U.S. underground psychedelic sound, Donovan's "Season Of The Witch" certainly is less menacing than the Vanilla Fudge's version, but still much heavier than the original. The Cream medley is rather strange, and Tim Hardin's "If I Were A Carpenter" sounds spherically esoteric. When Lynn Boccumini sings lead vocals, the band even sounds a bit like Jefferson Airplane. Grand Funk Railroad - Survival 1971

Basta checar "All You've Got Is Money", onde a bateria soa bem "soft". Generosas doses de reverb e eco são usadas durante o disco, que foi um grande passo para a banda em vários aspectos: produção, temas das letras e performance no estúdio. Outros destaques são as regravações de "Gimme Shelter" e "Feelin' Alright", que se encaixaram perfeitamente no estilo da banda, e a gospel "I Can Feel Him In The Morning".
