Krokodil - The Psychedelic Tapes (1970-1972 Swiss Psych Prog Rock)

EXCELENTE VENENO DESTA MORTAL BANDA KROKODIL!! ESTE ALBUM É UMA COMPILAÇÃO DE VENENOS MORTAIS DOS CARAS!! EM BREVE REPOSTO TODA A DISCOGRAFIA DOS CARAS, POIS TRATA-SE DE UMA DAS MELHORES BANDAS DO GÊNERO COM ALBUNS MUITO RAROS!! UM PRESENTE DO BLOG VENENOS DO ROCK AOS SEUS CONSUMIDORES!!!

Krokodil was a Swiss band that emerged in the late 60’s as a blues-rock band that put progressive touches into their music. They were of German-Swiss extraction with bassist and guitarist Terry Stevens being the only foreigner in the band, coming form England. They were regarded as the Swiss version of the Groundhogs due to their first album.

However, from their 2nd album Swamp they started to introduce a psychedelic sound to their music, a sound which is very much dominant on Invisible World Revealed. In that album they make use of mellotron, organ, harmonica and flute all backed up by an acoustic guitar which give the album an exotic and stoned feeling to it. The eastern and Indian influences in this album are present through the sitar and tabla in the 15 minutes suite Odyssey In Om. The blues here gives way to the psychedelics, ethnic sounds and vocal harmonies, but it is still there. Getting up For The Morning continues the same style (in a new label, Bacillus) but they became more succinct in their approach to composition and it was more of a song oriented album than its predecessor.

A band not to be missed by anyone who likes blues, psychedelic and ethnic in his music and does not mind them being mingled together. Even though they are tough to find, their 3rd album is very much worth the bother.Review taken from ProgArchives.

Walty Anselmo - guitar, vocals
Düde Dürst - drums
Hardy Hepp - vocals, piano, violin, 1969-70
Terry Stevens - bass, guitar, vocals
Mojo Weideli - harmonica, flute, percussion

THE HAPPY HOUR BAND - Happy Now with Sky Saxon & Djin Aquarian (70's Rock Acid Psych)

THE RARITY OF RARITIES!! A RARIDADE DAS RARIDADES!! BANDA DE SKY SAXON (THE SEEDS) E DE DJIN AQUARIAN (YAHOWA 13), CUJO ALBUM TEVE UMA PRODUÇÃO SUPER LIMITADA COM APENAS 500 CÓPIAS!! O SOM DA BANDA NÃO É MUITO DIFERENTE DO QUE FAZIA A BANDA YAHOWA 13!! A HISTÓRIA DO DISCO É BEM LEGAL E PODE SER CONFERIDA NO TEXTO EM INGLÊS LOGO ABAIXO!! AS PEQUENAS DISTORÇÕES SE ENCAIXAM PERFEITAMENTE COM OS EFEITOS PSYCH BLUESY DAS MUSICAS!! PSICODELIA DA BOA E ALTAMENTE RARA!! VENENO DE EFEITO ALUCINÓGENO!! POISON OF HALLUCINOGENIC EFFECT!!

Some might still know / remember or might have heard of Yahowa 13, a cult figure band that released a couple of weird psychedelic jam records with "spiritual" & tribal content. I made a separate Webpage about Yahowha 13. The leader died because of an accident, but the group members still remained active and recorded also various tracks over the years. John Wilby got into contact with Djin at around the publication appearance of the interview with Yahowha 13 members at the Perfect Sound Forever Website. He mentioned that he was looking for some way to make available the recordings he had made with Saxon over the years. Round about the same time another artist had mentioned that they had some unreleased recordings and wished they could somehow find someone to release them. Seeing this as too much of a coincidence to ignore he decided to form a label to release both artists' work. The label is called Splash 2 Records in tribute to the 13th Floor Elevators who wrote a song called Splash 1. 'Happy Now' is the first release. This consists of rehearsal recordings that were made with Djin and Sky plus local musicians from the Mount Shasta area of Northern California where they both now live. The title comes from the question 'Can We Be Happy Now?' that Djin can be heard to ask at the start of the long track 'In The Cradle Of Love/Freeway.' The Happy Hour Band is just a name that Djin made up when he asked him what the name of the band was.

The style is really not so very different from what Djin and Sky Saxon did with Yahowa 13. The recording is not perfect, but the tiny distortion fits perfectly with the bluesy psych effect of the music. In general the musicians improvised on repetitive patterns, where with Yahowa they tried to do it with a Kundalini or yogi-energy that was over a sort of orgastic top. This happens two times on the album. On the first track and really completely over the edge at the last track. In between are a couple of somewhat song based improvisations that are moody, but didn't get into that overdrive which in earlier recordings was caused by a spiritual drive mostly.

The first track in, is a bluesy folk psych improvisation. Further on in this track the improvisation goes over the top, and rhythms & guitar become very psychedelic. With Sky Saxon on vocals. "Venus we come" is a fine psych song too. "City Pity" is a somewhat tempered and stoned improvisation. The first part is fine to listen too, but not essential ; the track gets hardly beyond the limitations of the improvisations itself. "Let's be lovers / YHVH all" with its appealing repetitive chords and rhythms, but also this track is just nice, and nothing more. The senile commune version of "Silent Night" is a strange oddity. With bells, drums, piano and backing vocals and all. In some way I really don't understand how they got into singing this. But I still have the Father Christmas image of Father Yod in mind. Here the abandoned children wane as a remaining memory. Last track luckily has again the tendency to become completely psychedelic and over the top , with guitars and organ, drums, and later on some harpsichord and some distorted guitar improvisations too as well as crazy second (female) vocals. A great track that makes up for the more repetitive and more common tracks in the middle. At the end it sounds a bit like The End from The Doors. A great end indeed.

Still a must for Yahowa 13 fans. Only 500 pressed.

PS. About thee date of the recordings : "Silent Night was recorded round about Christmas 1999.Happy Now In The Cradle Of Love/Freeway was recorded early in the New Year 2000. Djin's question 'Can We Be Happy Now' refers to the fact it is now the new millennium and so now we can be happy. The other songs except Dogs Cruising/Wild Child were probably recorded around the same time, possibly a few months later. 'Dogs' is a song that Sky has had in some form or another for some time. This comes from a different tape from the other songs and I think was recorded a few years earlier, but with the same personnel." John Wilby

BLUE GOOSE - Blue Goose (1976 UK Hardrock Bluesy)

BLUE GOOSE - GANSO AZUL - MAIS UMA VERDADEIRA PÉROLA SETENTISTA DE UMA BANDA QUE FAZIA UM HARDBLUES COM COMPETÊNCIA!! UM DOS CARAS IMPORTANTES PARA A FORMAÇÃO DESTA BANDA É O GUITARRISTA EDDIE CLARK QUE DEPOIS VINHA A SER MEMBRO DA FAMOSA BANDA DE HEAVY METAL "MOTORHEAD"!! ÓTIMO E RARO VENENO QUE CERTAMENTE NÃO VAI DAR NÓ NO CÉREBRO DE NINGUÉM QUE TENHA BOM GOSTO!! A ÚLTIMA FAIXA COM CERCA DE 10 MINUTOS DE DURAÇÃO É UM A BALADA HARD BLUES PRA PIRAR A CABEÇA DE QUALQUER ENVENENADO!! TEM A FAIXA 7 QUE É UM HINO HARDPULSANTE!! GOD SAVE THE POISONS!!

"Inspired, firstly by Eric Clapton, then later by Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Clarke (Later with Motorhead, Fastway) began a guitar-playing career around his hometown of Twickenham in Middlesex. By the time he was 15, Eddie had been through many local bands, one of whom went under the name of The Bitter End.

Eddie continued gigging around locally until 1973, when he turned professional by joining Curtis Knight’s band, Zeus, as lead guitarist. This was an incredible turn of coincidence for Eddie, as most rock fans will probably know that Jimi Hendrix played with Curtis Knight’s band, The Squires, during his pre-Experience days, so for Eddie, this was a particularly poignant step to take. Other personnel in the Zeus line-up at the time were Chris Perry (drums), Nicky Hogarth (keyboards) and John Weir (bass).

During his 18-month stint with Curtis Knight and Zeus, Eddie and the band recorded an album titled The Second Coming at Olympic Studios during March 1974. The Clarke guitar style is indelibly stamped within the songs on this album, and Eddie also wrote the music to Curtis’ lyrics on the track titled The Confession. Eddie also appeared on the single, Devil Made Me Do It, which had an album track, Oh Rainbow, as the flip side. A further album titled Sea Of Time was also recorded and released, but only in Europe where the band was very popular.

Whilst still with Zeus, a guitarist friend, Allan Callan, invited keyboard player, Nicky Hogarth, and drummer, Chris Perry, to a jam session at Command Studios in Piccadilly. Four tracks came out of this session, three of which were complete except for the addition of bass and vocals. In fact, the tracks were that good that the quartet managed to secure a deal with Anchor Records, and called the band Blue Goose.

With the Anchor contract in their pocket, Eddie, Nicky and Chris left Zeus to concentrate on their own project with Allan Callan. Curtis Knight was outraged at this mutiny, so much so that he put the word around that if he ever met up with them again he would beat them up for leaving him in the lurch.

Allan Callan had no amps of his own, so Eddie allowed him to share his during rehearsals. This later flared into an argument as Eddie found it impossible to hear his solos as Callan was drowning him out. The upshot of this ended in Eddie being sacked.

However, within a few days, the band had asked him to re-join them, but he refused as he felt that they, as a band, were doing Anchor an injustice in that they had been paid an advance for the recording of an album, but at the time they had made no moves towards doing so.

The self titled Blue Goose album was released by Anchor in 1974. The only reminder of Eddie’s time with the band was an instrumental track titled Over The Top, credited to Clarke-Hogarth-Perry, and is nothing like the Motorhead track sharing the same title.

Almost immediately after the high noon with Blue Goose, Eddie formed another band with Be Bop Deluxe bassist, Charlie Tumalhi, Ann McCluskie on vocals and Jim Thompson on drums, under the name of Continuous Performance. This liaison lasted through to early 1975 when their demo tracks failed to secure a suitable record deal. The band, as such, then folded, but Eddie enlisted Nicky Hogarth from Blue Goose to try again with Tony Cussons (bass) and Terry Slater (drums). Sadly, the line-up suffered the same fate that led to Continuous Performance disbanding and Eddie giving up the music business for a short while."

MAD DOG - Dawn Of The Seventh Sun (1969 US Hard Rock Psych)

VENENO RARÍSSIMO DESTA BANDA AMERICANA OBSCURA DE HARD ROCK COM PITADAS FORTES DO PSICODELISMO CALIFORNIANO!! HARD-PSYCH-WEST COAST DE BOA QUALIDADE!! POUCAS CÓPIAS FORAM PRODUZIDAS DESTE ÁLBUM!! Mad Dog - Dawn of the Seventh Sun CD. CD reissue of this unreleased album of West Coast psych recordings from 1969. Monstrous & unreleased at the time heavy/psychedelic/West Coast artifact of the highest order. This is one of the five best-ever promo-only releases to emerge from California. Only released in a quantity of a couple of copies to get a major record deal that never materialized. Three of the songs were used in a low-budget biker flick called Black Angels. The original demo LP had only a plain black label with no kinds of credits. The original producer told us that a demo-only LP was released by The Zoo after the Chocolate Moose album. The slightly different line-up had the name Joyful Noise (you can see a scan of the acetate in Hans Pokora's 4001 Record Collector's Dreams) but at this time they were looking for a tougher name to fit to the music and they found Mad Dog. Under this name a couple of test pressings were done. So we made a re-release deal straight away. To our surprise the guy told us, after hearing the tape, that he knew the music and that it had already been re-released by another label without any kinds of info using the numbers from the dead end part of the vinyl which was C1/C2! The C was for Cavett, the producer's name. Since the project was already paid, we decided to go on with the release to please collectors with an amazing remastering straight from the master tapes, and an insert with unseen pictures and a band bio written by Morgan Cavett.

Woody's Truck Stop - Same (1969 Philadelphia Rock Blues Psych)

MUITO BOA BANDA QUE FAZIA UM BLUES ROCK E BALADAS PSICODÉLICAS DE ÓTIMA QUALIDADE!! A VERSÃO DE "CHECKIN ON MY BABY" RASGADA POR UMA HARMÔNICA E UM VOCAL PODEROSO É MUITO BOA E UM DOS PONTOS ALTOS DO DISCO!! O DISCO COMEÇA JÁ COM UM BALADA BLUES PSYCH DE PRIMEIRA LINHA!! BOM VENENO E BOA BANDA!! GREAT POISON AND GREAT BAND!!

Here's another request, Woody's Truck Stop, this was released long after Todd Rundgren's involvement with the band, a nice mixture of Rock and Blues.

- Alan Miller: lead guitar, vocals & bass
- Greg Radcliffe: rhythm guitar, vocals
- Ron Bogdon: bass

Sam Gopal - Escalator (UK Acid Psych Rock 1969)

ESTA BANDA TEM COMO INTEGRANTE IAN "LEMMY" WILLIS" NA GUITARRA E VOCAIS, ELE QUE JÁ FOI ROADIE DE JIMI HENDRIX E PARTICIPANTE DA BANDA "HAWKWIND", ENTRE TANTAS ANDANÇAS!! MAIS TARDE LIDEROU A BANDA DE HEAVY METAL MOTORHEAD!! ESTE DISCO É UM VENENO PURO E PRA QUEM GOSTA DE UM BOM SOM PSICODÉLICO É PRATO CHEIO, VISTO QUE O LÍDER SAM GOPAL É UM DOS MAIS CULTUADOS TOCADORES DE TABLA, UM INSTRUMENTO DE PERCUSSÃO MEMBRAMOFÔNICO UTILIZADO NA INDIA EM MÚSICAS DEVOCIONAIS OU MEDITATIVAS!! A COMBINAÇÃO É PERFEITA E HARMONIZA UM ROCK PSICODÉLICO ÁCIDO DA MAIS ALTA QUALIDADE!!

Sam Gopal was fronted by the young tabla player of the same name as Sam Gopal Dream, an acoustic raga-without-sitar group that had previously performed at UFO and other hippy London venues. But by the time they recorded this, their first album, he had added not only electric guitar, but also former Jimi Hendrix’s roadie, Ian “Lemmy” Willis to the lineup on further fuzz guitar and vocals. I imagine it was in all certainty against Gopal’s will he started knocking them into a fiercely lumpen rock outfit whose only missing ingredient was a drummer, the loping basslines often operating as a rhythmic substitute.

The album is weirdly mixed and a super crude production, completely tipped in the favour of Lemmy’s vocals and fuzz guitar, making it sound even more imbalanced. The sum total of percussion on this album is tabla, finger cymbals (on one track) and either a session drummer or Gopal forsaking his ancestral instrument for a rented drum kit on the “You Really Got Me” hijack, “Midsummer Night’s Dream.” A squeezed and barely reigned-in fuzz guitar rebounds all over the place uncontrollably as a youthful Lemmy sings “The face in the mirror is screaming insanely” over the blistering rave up. And all the remaining tracks sound as rough, down at the heels and hunkered down as the band members themselves. In fact, all the tracks are about as drugged and unglamourous as the members of Sam Gopal themselves: which, from one look at the cover shot, is an achievement as they all look ‘street’, stoned and pissed off as hell. This album pre-dates Lemmy’s induction into Hawkwind’s ragged ranks by several years, but the germ of Hawkwind’s (and in time, Motörhead) “The Watcher” is in the horribly fuzzed and equally-strung out “You’re Alone Now.”

On other tracks the bass player seems to be playing very crude early Motörhead runs, so they may have been parrot-taught or even played by Lemmy himself. One of them is “Escalator,” opening up directly in a double-tracked careening guitar solo screech out over the lyrics “And if you think you love me livin’, baby/You’re gonna love me when I’m dead.” It’s a hip-shaking rocker looking desperately for a drummer to rock it out. Backing session singers on a cover of “Season Of The Witch” is the only concession on the album, probably a result of coaxing from their rough trade seeking and ultra-straight producer Trevor Walters, whose picture was the only thing adorning the back cover besides the record label’s logo.

Jade Warrior - Released (1971 UK Rock Prog Jazzy)

DIFÍCIL COLOCAR UM RÓTULO NO ESTILO DESTA EXCELENTE BANDA, MAS DARIA PRA DIZER QUE FICA ENTRE O PROGRESSIVO COM PITADAS SUTIS DE JAZZ!! ESTE É O SEGUNDO ALBUM LANÇADO!! FLAUTA, PERCUSSÃO E KEYBOARDS DÃO O TOM DESTE VENENO QUE RECOMENDO A TODOS QUE GOSTAM DE UM BOM PROGRESSIVO!! EM BREVE COLOCO TAMBÉM O PRIMEIRO ALBUM!! VENENASSO PURO E DE EXCELENTE EFEITO!! NÃO CONSUMA COM MODERAÇÃO!!
The music of Jade Warrior is somewhat difficult to describe. Among the influences you'll hear in various aspects of their music, rock, jazz, Latin, Japanese, African, ambient, and the kitchen sink (almost literally - there are spoons and an empty whiskey bottle in there somewhere!). It's often melodically simple, and rhythmically complex... or vice versa. This is the kind of music that everyone can hear different dimensions within and is conqueror of none.

The second album was obviously meant to show the band from a more careless, spontaneous and harder rocking side than the debut. But some parts are also slightly jazzier in sound, most because of the saxophone played by guest Dave Conners. The opener "Three-Horned Dragon King", the Tull-ish "Eyes on You", "Minnamoto's Dream" and the truly annoying single "We Have Reason to Believe" all rocks quite hard and intense. And it's no coincidence if you think the riff of "Minnamoto's Dream" is similar to "A Prenormal Day at Brighton" from the debut, as it's actually the same riff played backwards!
The laid-back side of the band is represented by the two pleasant ballads "Bride of Summer" and "Yellow Eyes".
"Barazinbar" is a 15-minute jam where the more jazz-inflected side of the album shines through. However this style works even better in the instrumental "Water Curtain Cave" - which is probably the greatest track on this album. Early 70's, jazzy and atmospheric progressive rock at its greatest.

Clark Hutchinson - Gestalt (1971 UK Indo-Prog-Raga-Blues)

TERCEIRO DISCO DA BANDA CLARK HUTCHINSON E UM EXEMPLO DE FUSÃO DE INDO-PROG COM RAGA-BLUES!! VENENO PODEROSO E ALTAMENTE RECOMENDADO!!

First CD reissue of the 3rd Clark Hutchinson album, originally released by Deram Records in 1971. "Andy Clark and Mick Hutchinson recorded four semi-legendary LPs of drug/scatter/raga-blues between 1969 and 1971. Mick Hutchinson was -- and still is -- a gifted guitarist who had began his career playing Indian style music with the tabla expert Sam Gopal. Although he never recorded with Sam Gopal's Dream -- a young guitarist named Lemmy eventually fulfilled this role -- Hutchinson and Gopal played together at the legendary 14 hour Technicolour Dream at London's Alexandra Palace in April of 1967. Later, he teamed up with the multi-instrumentalist Andy Clark.

They both played a variety of instruments and this abundance of talent was brought to bear on the extraordinary two man album A=MH² which they recorded during two hectic 12 hour sessions in 1969. The band's last offering before splitting in 1971, Gestalt, was an altogether gentler, more reflective, disillusioned affair. Gestalt is eleven tracks shot through with sadness and regret. To some extent it's like listening to an extended meditation on Peter Green's 'Man of the World'. The lyrics are less explicit and less maudlin than on that particular track, but Andy Clark's vocals have the same poignancy, and Mick Hutchinson's guitar deftly and efficiently touches all the right spots. In case you're wondering, a gestalt is a pattern or structure -- an organised whole -- that is more than the sum of its parts.

The idea originates with the German system of Gestalt psychology, which holds that perceptions and reactions are gestalts. A clear example is a melody as distinct from the separate notes that go to make it up. However you apply the term to this album, there is something here that transcends the eleven short tracks that go to make it up. It's elusive, like something half-remembered from a dream. Whatever it is, it's enough to break your heart."

Merkin Manor - Music For Merkin Manor (1973 USA Psych Rock)

BOA BANDA AMERICANA QUE FAZIA UM SOM PSICODÉLICO COM SUTIS PITADAS COUNTRY BEM AO ESTILO DA ÁREA DE SAN FRANCISCO DE ONDE SAIRAM AS MELHORES BANDAS PSICODÉLICAS E FLOWER POWER!! Ok, let's see... this is a band from Utah that started in 1967 and made one album in 1971, released in micro-quantities in 1972 and now an expensive collector's item. Music From Merkin Manor is a strangely interesting album as might be expected from a group of young longhairs playing a combination of psychedelic, country, and hard rock in smalltown Utah in the early 1970s.

Dave Miller & Leith Corbett - Reflections of a Pioneer (1970 Australian Psych Rock)

EXCELENTE BANDA AUSTRALIANA!! ESTE VENENO É OBRIGATÓRIO EM QUALQUER COLEÇÃO DE PSYCHO ROCK QUE SE PREZE!! O ALBUM EM CERTOS MOMENTOS É MEIO LEDZEPELIANO E CARREGADO DE RIFFS, PSICODÉLICO, PROGRESSIVO, HARD E COM ELEMENTOS FOLKS!! O GUITARRISTA "JOHN ROBINSON" E "LEITH CORBETT" ERAM DA ÓTIMA BANDA "BLACKFEATHER"!! A BANDA É PRATICAMENTE UMA CONTINUAÇÃO DO QUE ERA CONHECIDO ANTERIORMENTE DE "DAVE MILLER SET" UMA DAS GRANDES AUTRALIANAS!!

First, some history. New Zealand born singer Dave Miller arrived in Sydney during 1966 with his band the Byrds. After a couple of singles the band fell apart and in 1967 Miller formed the Dave Miller Set. Signed up by the Spin label this outfit issued three strong pop singles. By this stage Robinson had emerged as a fluid and inventive guitarist, and after a couple of line-up changes the Dave Miller Set attained prominence as one of the first heavy rock bands on the local scene in the Led Zeppelin mould. The fourth single 'Mr Guy Fawkes', was a cover of song by Eire Apparent and ranks right up there at the high watermark of Australian pop production in the 1960's. However by the time it reached #6 on the charts the band was on its last legs. Miller issued a solo single in March 1970 and the other three formed Blackfeather with singer Neale Johns. Corbett and McCormac soon abandoned Blackfeather to work with Miller on an album. Issued at the end of 1970 on Spin (through Festival), 'Reflections Of A Pioneer' was credtited to Dave Miller / Leith Corbett & Friends. The albums diverse sound was exemplified by the single 'Reflections Of A Pioneer / 353527 Charles' (November 1970) which mixed country-tinged psychedelic pop (A-side) with Led Zep. style blues-rock (B-side). As the album progresses it slides into stranger territory, with the last three tracks in particular giving full vent to the experimental aesthetic that seems to be bubbbling away underneath. The sturdy 'Your Own Motor Car' gives way to the intriguing twists and turns of the Zapppaesque 'In Your Mind' which also sounds remarkably like Love's 'Orange Skies' at times.'It's Great To Get Up In The Morning' ends the album on high with its eerie chanting and all manner of psychedelic sounds. The album sold relatively few copies and is now considered to be one of the rarest seventies Australian albums! Mastered from the original tapes, this CD comes in the original artwork with added liner notes.

"Originally released 1969 on MPS Records Germany -- which became world famous for Dave Pike´s Noisy Silence Gentle Noise released in the same era. This is a true jewel for all progressive music enthusiasts. Ahead of its time the album is an eclectic mixture of Beat, Psychedelia and lysergic Trip Jazz. The album is compared with the similarly styled debut of Burnin' Red Ivanhoe. 14 Minutes title song 'Maxwells Street' sounds like a continuation of the Rolling Stones' 'Their Satanic Majesty's Requests'. Lars Bisgaard and Bent Hesselmann later played with Rainbow Band. Taken from the CD reissue of "Maxwell Street", Long Hair LHC28, 2003

TømrerClaus (Claus Pedersen) started his guitar carrier in the late 60's, playing with several Danish bands. In the mid-70's he moved to Christiania where began to play also cello and violin. Being much independent performer experimented a lot, so his music from that period is often surprising. All three TømrerClaus' albums from 70's were recorded and released by himself. That was the beginning of his record label Karma Music. Snydt [Cheated] appeared on tape and was sold in 400 copies. You can find 7 out of 12 tracks on CD reissue. These is very psychedelic instrumental music with Claus' rough fuzz guitar play and experiments with cello. Next self-titled album was released on LP. Hippie atmosphere of Christiania had big influence on artists living there. It could be somehow comparable to atmosphere on Woodstock festival. And when you listen to track Cellokarma where Claus abuses the cello Jimmi Hendrix playing the American hymn comes to your mind! In fact TømrerClaus' play seems to be under big influence of Hendrix and other guitar virtuosos of that time. The third work Hepar [Liver] was released again on cassette. Next album Savania appeared after a long break in 1993 featuring Claus on acoustic guitar. On his last work En Spade Er En Spade [A Spade Is A Spade] TømrerClaus came back to electric guitar. However, his music is more diverse - you may find his solos in style of Gary Moore, Ritchie Blackmore or Hank Marvin from The Shadows.

Sacred Mushroom - Sacred Mushroom (1969 US Psych Blues Rock)

EMBARQUE NESTA VIAGEM ÁCIDA COM OS COGUMELOS SAGRADOS!! BANDA AMERICANA QUE ERA UM QUINTETO DE BLUES ROCK, SENDO ESTE O SEU ÚNICO E RARO DISCO!! OS CARAS FAZIAM UMA MISTURA DE PSICODELIA, BLUES E HARD ROCK DA MELHOR QUALIDADE!! COGUMELOS SAGRADOS E ALTAMENTE VENENOSOS!!!

I was surprised by the excellence of this obscure album. The band Sacred Mushroom hailed from Cincinnati Ohio. This album was originally released in 1969. The most famous member of the band is lead guitarist/song writer Larry Goshorn who later joined country-rockers Pure Prairie League. The music on this disk sounds nothing like country rock. The music is instead great heavy blues from the late sixties. Larry Goshorn's guitar work while not overly fast or flashy shines throughout the disk. His playing on this set reminds me of Eric Clapton's playing while in the heavy blues/psych band Cream. Larry's brother Danny handles the lead vocals on the set. Songs like "I Don't Like You" and "Lifeline" contain great late sixties guitar playing. The disk also contains an inspired cover of the Kink's "I'm Not Like Everybody Else" and "Mean Old World" popularized by blues harmonica expert Little Walter. Unfortunately this was to be the band's only release. The approximately 34 minutes of music on this set shows great promise. Highly recommended for collectors of sixties heavy blues/rock.

Indian Summer - Indian Summer (1971 UK Progressive Rock)

VENENO INGLÊS CUJA BANDA FOI FORMADA EM 1969!! LANÇARAM APENAS ESTE ALBUM !! ESTILO HARD PROGRESSIVO COM UM VOCAL PODEROSO E BELOS SOLOS DE HAMMOND DE ALTA QUALIDADE!! VALE A PENA DAR UM TÉKINHO NESTE VENENO!! UM DOS MEUS FAVORITOS E CERTAMENTE UM DOS GRANDES DISCOS OBSCUROS DO ROCK SETENTISTA!!

Often named as a classic, this one-shot album of this British group from Coventry shows us the some of the finest progressive rock of this time, with vocals of Bob Jackson and excellent guitar work by Collin Williams. And excellent means: not screaming, but subtle. So often in this period, many groups appeared and disappeared, and Indian Summer was one of them, a pity. Good use of the hammond organ and mellotron, with a touch of blues as well. If you like early Yes, Pink Floyd, or Tomorrow, you will surely enjoy them. Highlights include "God is the Dog" and "Emotions of Men". The artwork is done by Keef, a well known designer in that time... This album needs to be in your prog. collection! 4 stars out of 5.

Musicians:
Bob Jackson: keyboards, vocals
Colin Williams: guitar, vocals
Paul Hooper: drums, percussion, vocals
Malcolm Harker: bass, vibes, vocals

NEIL MERRYWEATHER, JOHN RICHARDSON & THE BOERS (1970 Canadian Bluesy Psych)

NEIL MERRYWEATHER!! AQUI ESTÁ MAIS UM DOS GRANDES DISCOS DO CARA!! CERTAMENTE UM DE SEUS MELHORES!! BLUES PSICODÉLICO MUITO LOUCO E ALTAMENTE RECOMENDÁVEL!! UM BOM VENENO PRA SER CONSUMIDO SEM MODERAÇÃO!!

After his exit from the band “Merryweather”, Neil and his manager flew to Toronto where Neil found his new band members. He recruited Robin Boers as drummer. Robin was in the “Ugly Ducklings”, a local Toronto band that had a single on the Canadian charts. For guitarist, he chose John Richardson who had played with the “Lords of London” and “Nucleus”, two popular bands on the Toronto scene. Neil and Morey Alexander flew them back to LA.

The “Merryweather, Richardson & Boers” album was recorded for Kent Records as a one-off deal to raise money to support the band, with the advance being used to rent a house to live and rehearse in. The LP was recorded in one night at Paramount Studios. Neil wrote the songs on the fly, they did a couple of cover songs, and it was done in about four hours. It was quickly mixed at Village Recorders.

Neil brought Jack Velker into the crew to play organ. He was a member of a Canadian band called the “49th Parallel” that disbanded in LA.

“Merryweather, Richardson & Boers” added Neil’s girlfriend, Lynn Carey, to the band for some more recordings at Kent Studios. They did covers of “Shop Around” and “Lucille” with Neil and Lynn singing a two-part harmony. Kent Records put the songs out as a single by “Mama & Papa Rock ‘n’ Family”.

John Richardson – guitar

Mount Rushmore - 69 + High On (1969 US Heavy-Blues-Rock)

BANDA AMERICANA FORMADA NO FINAL DE 1966 EM SAN FRANCISCO NA CALIFORNIA, QUE EXALAVA UM VENENO PODEROSO AO MELHOR ESTILO HEAVY BLUES ROCK COM PITADAS PSICODÉLICAS!! LANÇARAM APENAS ESTES DOIS DISCOS, AMBOS DE 1969 E QUE FOI JUNTADO NESTA EDIÇÃO EUROPEÍA!! VALE A PENA DAR UM "TÉCO" DESTE VENENO PODEROSO, POIS TRATA-SE DE MAIS UM DAQUELES BELOS TESOUROS PERDIDOS DO ROCK!!!
The band formed in late 1966 at 1915 Oak Street, a large Victorian rooming house in the Haight-Ashbury district. In June and July 1967 they were featured on posters for shows at the Avalon Ballroom with other bands including the Quicksilver Messenger Service and Big Brother and the Holding Company. After some members including Phillips left for the band Phoenix in 1968, new members were added and the group made two albums.

Also-rans of the San Francisco psychedelic era, Mount Rushmore gigged frequently with fellow travelers Big Brother and the Holding Company, Canned Heat and Quicksilver Messenger Service, but this debut LP is evidence enough of why they aren't held in the same esteem. Mount Rushmore pumped out competent electric boogie with a boozy edge, but they coast on distortion and attitude rather than song craft or instrumental prowess, placing them firmly in the garage band tradition but not among the trendsetters that shared their bills.

Mike Bolan — "Bull" — guitarras
Glenn Smith — "Smitty" — vocais, guitarras
Travis Fullerton — bateria, percursão

One of the rarest psych/prog albums recorded by a Spanish band in the early seventies. A world class item featuring spaced vocals, effects, astonishing guitar work, flute...Orginally released in 1971 on the Dimension label it has a ghostly, surreal atmosphere and is reminiscent of early Pink Floyd with acid folk chucked in for good measure/madness.

Sperrmull - Sperrmull (1973 German Psych Hardrock)

BEAUTIFUL POISON!! GREAT GERMAN BAND!! VENENASSO!! BANDA ALEMÃ DE PRIMEIRÍSSIMA LINHA!! ALBUM RARO E DIFÍCIL DE OBTER!! OS CARAS MISTURAVAM PSICODELIA, PROGRESSIVO E HARDROCK NUMA FUSÃO INCRÍVEL!! VENENO ALEMÃO DA MELHOR SAFRA!! NÃO CONSUMA COM MODERAÇÃO!!
Official issue of killer '70s German space rock with English vocals. Tracks like "No Freak Out" and "Right Now" explode with acid guitar reverb mayhem. A classic slice of Kraut-rock and very rare on vinyl... Now in fold out Digipak with bonus tracks.

Sperrmull's only album has all the musical variety you'll ever desire from an early 70s German album - the jolly mandolin tune on "Me And My Girlfriend", Floydian effects on "No Freak Out", Deep Purple-like guitar and organ lines on "Rising Up" and powerful solo work with dynamic arrangements on "Right Now" (the longest track). The rest, "Land Of The Rocking Sun" and "Pat Casey", were more conventional rock songs, and could very well have been the A and B sides to a catchy single (but weren't!). The recordings were done at the Dierks Studio, Stommeln, produced by a certain Chazadu, surely a more famous character appearing under a pseudonym.

Long time lost krautrock classic delivering a dynamic, complex combination between fuzzy freak out improvisations (full of Hammond organs and catchy heavy guitar leads) & folk epic arrangements for the flute. They published only one album in 1970 in a rather anonymus way at D. Dierks's studio (for the Brain label in a very limited edition, lately re-published by Second battle). A very accomplished essay. Similar to (early) Deep Purple, Nosferatu and Rufus Zuphall.
Their album is one of the rarest of the whole Brain 1,000-series, mint originals selling for more than 250 DM. In 1989, a limited edition of 1,000 copies (on black Brain) was made available through the influence of Second Battle. This edition sold out quickly, so the album is once again hard to obtain.

The German rock music scene was just evolving at that time, and the goal of the Brain label was to further talents in this field. Apart from top selling acts it also signed on bands that may not have got much attention from the broad public but nevertheless have to be counted among the most remarkable and outstanding bands of their times. Among them is Electric Sandwich, a jazz rock/fusion band from the city of Bonn, who released their only, self-titled album in 1973 (Brain catalogue number 1018).

Violence Fog & Jerusalem - SWF Sessions Vol. 6 (1971 German Hard Progressive Rock)

REGISTRO RARÍSSIMO E ÚNICO DESTAS DUAS ÓTIMAS E OBSCURAS BANDAS ALEMÃS!! VENENO PODEROSO DE EFEITO IMEDIATO E LETAL!!! ALTAMENTE RECOMENDADO!!

As duas bandas passeiam no estilo hard/heavy-progressive. O Violence Fog puxa mais o lado prog por incluir a flauta ; já no Jerusalem, o lance são guitarras duelando nas músicas, vocais bem encaixados e climas escuros."

SWF was a radio station in Germany that made some sessions like London's BBC of underground german bands. Violence Fog and Jerusalem (not Jerusalem from UK) hadn't any oficial registers except this sessions in SWF, in 1971. Heavy-prog sounds with good sound quality. Rare registers.

Whereas previous CDs released in the SWF-Sessions series were devoted to one band, Vol. 6 in the series features VIOLENCE FOG and JERUSALEM. Both bands have their roots in the south-western part of Germany where they enjoyed local fame.

It would, however, be wrong to accuse VIOLENCE FOG and JERUSALEM of being provincial or average. The titles recorded for the former radio station SWF demonstrate both musical originality and considerable technical ability.

Compared to previous releases in the SWF-Sessions series, VIOLENCE FOG and JERUSALEM really belong to the ‘guitar‘ category, in VIOLENCE FOG’s case, with the noticeable addition use of flute and some impressive singing, while JERUSALEM are characterized by epic music pieces with West Coast overtones.

VIOLENCE FOG was formed in 1969 from members of various local bands in the Baden-Baden region (of Germany). It only took a few rehearsals before they were making successful live appearances where, apart from original compositions, their repertoire also included their own version of ‘Brother Where Are You‘ (Remo Four) and ‘Paint It Black‘ (R. Stones). The band had a considerable fan following who accompanied them to their shows in the German south-west. In addition to playing gigs in youth centres and music clubs, VIOLENCE FOG also played at local film premieres and performances of music films like Easy Rider, Woodstock, Alice’s Restaurant and Let It Be. The band scored a great hit with their elaborate psychedelic light show projected onto the cinema screen.

By the mid-seventies the group had achieved more than just local fame and decided to try their luck with SWF which was producing a series for potentially successful up-and-coming groups. On 23.4.71 the band achieved their aim and recorded the titles released on this CD in the radio station’s own studio U1 in Baden-Baden.

Despite the motivation created by the SWF recordings the band broke up a few weeks later for professional reasons. Intensive research has failed to shed light on any other publishable title by the band.

Guitarist Enno Dernov and drummer Herbert Brandmeier later played together in Jud’s Gallery (SWF-Sessions Vol. 1), Enno Dernov leaving the group several month before the recordings were made at SWF. He went on to join Brainstorm and took over as bass player on their second LP before joining Respect. The twin brothers Karl-Heinz and Wolfgang Höfer changed over to playing folk music.

JERUSALEM was formed at the end of 1969 when Matthias Stein and Richard Reß quit the goup Intoxication and after Hungry Love with Günther Rüffel, Wolfgang Hilgert and Bernd Lewandowski split up. The five 16-20 year-old school kids and job trainees were already a permanent feature of the music scene in and around Landau in the Palatinate region of Germany and wanted to create their own sound, having become fed up with playing other people’s international hits. The highly motivated young musicians had soon put together a stage show featuring all their own compositions and were soon the number one attraction on the Landau music scene. There were two reasons for the group’s popularity: the impressive interaction of the two lead guitars (Matthias Stein and Günther Rüffel) and the fact that JERUSALEM used two bass players (Richard Reß and Wolfgang Hilgert).

The band’s music, following as it did the progressive trends of the time, was an expression of the creative potential of each band member and enthusiastically received by the fans. As a result of various appearances at the same gigs, JERUSALEM got noticed by other better-known bands like Ihre Kinder and Frumpy and were asked to play as warm-up group. A tour with Frumpy saw JERUSALEM playing not only in the south-west and south of Germany but also in Austria and Switzerland. JERUSALEM appeared on the same show as Fashion Pink (SWF-Sessions Vol. 3), Roland Schaeffer’s band. SWF had given Roland Schaeffer the job of organizing the talent contest for up-and-coming new bands. JERUSALEM were one of the applicants for the contest and on 04.06.1971 recorded the titles on this CD in the radio station’s own studio. All the songs were broadcast in the SWF 3 programme ‘Pop-Shop‘. However, the band were never able to take advantage of their resulting increased popularity.

A few month after the SWF recordings singer and guitarist Matthias Stein died in a tragic motor cycle accident. Richard Reß, Matthias Stein’s friend of many years was so badly shaken that he gave up his musical career and withdrew from public life. These events marked the end of
JERUSALEM. Intensive research has likewise failed to turn up any additional titles by this innovative band. The remaining musicians joined other local groups. Günther Rüffel plays for a cover band in his spare time. Bernd Lewandowski works as a free-lance musician.

VIOLENCE FOG and JERUSALEM are striking examples how Kraut and Progressive Rock was not only reserved for the big metropolises but was also a regional phenomenon.

The Brunning/Hall Sunflower Blues Band was the part-time British blues-rock outfit led by former Fleetwood Mac bassist Bob Brunning and blues pianist Bob Hall. A founding member of Fleetwood Mac, Brunning kept a low profile after having been let go by Peter Green once John McVie was free of John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. He worked briefly with Savoy Brown and became a schoolteacher, but still found time -- with Hall and their Sunflower Blues Band -- to release four albums: 1968's Bullen Street Blues, 1969's Trackside Blues (featuring Green), 1970's I Wish You Would, and 1971's The Brunning/Hall Sunflower Blues Band. The group reconvened in the '80s as the Deluxe Blues Band, and the bandmembers often served as backup players for stateside blues musicians touring England. Trackside Blues and I Wish You Would were re-released on Appaloosa in 2000. Brunning continues to be involved in blues music and study, delivering lectures on the topic from time to time.

BANDA ALEMÃ QUE FAZIA UM SOM PSYCH PROG ROCK!! NÃO CHEGA A SER UM EXCELENTE ALBUM, MAS OS SOLOS DE SÍTARAS SÃO BEM LEGAIS E AS HARMONIAS VOCAIS NA SUA MAIORIA SÃO MUITO BOAS!! O CERTO É QUE É UMA BELA RARIDADE!!

Abstract Truth - Totum & Silver Trees (1971-1970 South African Rock Progressive)

DOIS TREMENDOS VENENOS NUM FRASCO SÓ VINDO DA AFRICA DO SUL!! TOTUM É UMA OBRA MAGNÍFICA E UM DOS MEUS DISCOS PREFERIDOS!! ENTRE OUTROS INSTRUMENTOS, PODEMOS ESCUTAR TECLADOS, FLAUTAS E SAX, NUMA MISTURA QUE VAI DO ROCK, JAZZ, FOLK E BLUES!! ESCUTEM SÓ A VERSÃO PARA "PARCHMAN FARM" E SINTAM O VENENO E VEJAM SE NÃO É A MELHOR VERSÃO DE TODOS OS TEMPOS PARA ESTE CLÁSSICO!! UM VENENO AFRICANO MORTAL E RARO!! SILVER TREES TAMBÉM É UMA OBRA, MAS NESTE DISCO SENTIMOS UM POUCO MAIS INFLUÊNCIAS LEVES DE JAZZ!! TAMBÉM É UMA OBRA!! DOIS VENENOS EM UM FRASCO SÓ E DE EFEITO MORTAL!! NÃO TEM ANTÍDOTO PARA ESTES VENENOS!! A VIAGEM É ETERNA E GRATIFICANTE!!

Excellent early '70s melodic wistful freak rock blends with African sounds featuring assorted instruments: keyboards, flutes, electric guitars, saxophone, percussion, etc. A refreshing approach with eastern touch. If you like UK bands such as Quintessence, If and Blodwin Pig, this album goes in the same direction. It is more trippy/stoned and acoustic than the Silver Trees album.

Musicians:Ken E Henson: Guitar, vocals
Peter Measroch: Piano, organ, flute, harpsichord, vocals
George Wolfaardt: Bass, flute, drums, vocals
Sean Bergin: Flute, saxophone

BLUES SECTION - Blues Section (1967 Finland Blues Psych)

ÓTIMA BANDA DE BLUES PSICODÉLICA DA FINLÂNDIA!! A BANDA TEVE VIDA CURTA ENTRE 1967-1969!! A GRANDE CURIOSIDADE É QUE O BAIXISTA E O VOCALISTA, POSTERIORMENTE, FIZERAM PARTE DA ÓTIMA BANDA "TASAVALLAN PRESIDENTTI"!! VALE A PENA CONFERIR ESTE VENENO PELO SOM E PELA RARIDADE!!

From PhinnWeb:

I think Blues Section would be THE Finnish band to fit best in the psychedelic underground and even garage spirit. Their career was short-lived (1967-69), in which time they managed to create some classic songs from Hendrix/Cream/John Mayall-influenced blues to pop and jazz-tinged psychedelia. Their 'Cherry Cup-Cake Twist' would well fit in its strangeness to any Nuggets or Pebbles-style collections; 'Semi-Circle Solitude' is one of the finest pop anthems to ever come out of Finland, and 'Hey Hey Hey' is pure, hard-biting electric garage.

Blues Section's saxophone player Eero Koivistoinen would record in 1968 the legendary Valtakunta album, with Hasse Walli and Ronnie Österberg of Blues Section among the musicians there. Jim Pembroke, the British expatriate vocalist and song-writer for Blues Section, would later form with Österberg Wigwam, the biggest progressive rock band in Finland; Blues Section's bassist Måns Groundstroem and Pembroke's vocalist successor Frank Robson would appear in Tasavallan Presidentti, Wigwam's greatest prog rival in Finland - but that's another story...
