Ptarmigan - Ptarmigan - (1974 Canadian Acid-Psych-Folk)

BANDA CANADENSE RARA E DE MUITO BOA MUSICALIDADE!!
O SOM DOS CARAS TINHA UMA BOA HARMONIA VOCAL E TOQUES LEGAIS DE FLAUTA E PERCUSÃO!! O GRANDE LANCE DOS CARAS É QUE ELES USAVAM BATERIA SOMENTE QUANDO NECESSÁRIO, OU SEJA, PRATICAMENTE NÃO HÁ BATERIA, PORÉM ISSO É COMPENSADO COM UMA EXCELENTE PERCUSSÃO!!

NA FAIXA "THE ISLAND" O CLIMA COMEÇA COM MUDANÇAS DE RITMO, UMA BELA VOZ LEVANDO O OUVINTE A UMA VIAGEM ESPACIAL COM UM BONGÔ QUE SOA MACIO E BRILHANTE!! TUDO ISSO EM CONJUNTO COM VIOLÕES, FLAUTA E SONS DE GAIVOTA QUE CRIAM UM CLIMA BEM PSICODÉLICO E LEGAL!!

A BANDA ERA FORMADA POR HIPPIES ITINERANTES E AO QUE PARECE PASSARAM ALGUM TEMPO NA AMERICA DO SUL, POIS HÁ UMA INFLUÊNCIA DA MÚSICA ANDINA EM SEU ALBUM, BEM COMO TOQUES DE BANDAS FOLK-HIPPIES COMO FOREST E COMUS!! A BANDA ERA LIDERADA PELO FLAUTISTA E VOCALISTA GLEN DIAS E PELO GUITARRISTA MONTE NORDSTROM!! O BAIXISTA DAVIS ASTON, APÓS UM SHOW DA BANDA, ACABOU MORRENDO NUM ACIDENTE DE CARRO, FATO ESSE QUE DESANIMOU SEUS LÍDERES QUE OPTARAM POR DESSITIR DE UM PROJETO FUTURO PRA BANDA!! UMA LÁSTIMA QUE ESSE SEJA O UNICO ALBUM DA PTARMIGAN!! HOJE O MESMO É PEÇA DE COLECIONADOR!! VENENO RECOMENDADO!!

A nice acid-folk album from British Columbia with a pretty big reputation among collectors. Ptarmigan were obviously globe-trotting hippies, and they must have spent some time in South America. There's a strong influence of Andean music on this record, particularly in the recorder playing, as well as touches of English hippie folk bands like Forest, Comus and the ISB, and a west coast U.S. psyche influence.

The Ptarmigan album is an acoustic mellow laid back early seventies hippie folk offering. There are plenty of recorder passages and strummed guitars and the album has a light pastoral feel overall. It includes both of the 45 cuts, which are certainly the most accessible songs on the album. Side two is dominated by two long and largely instrumental tracks, Night Of The Gulls and Coquihalla.
