GALADRIEL – Galadriel (1971 Australian Blues Rock Prog)

BANDA AUSTRALIANA QUE FAZIA UM BLUES COM ELEMENTOS PROGRESSIVOS E FOLK!! TEM FLAUTAS SOANDO AO ESTILO JETHRO TULL!! ALGUNS ELEMENTOS DE JAZZ E HARD ROCK!! ÓTIMO DISCO E ÓTIMA BANDA!! VENENO RECOMENDADO!!

Australian band Galadriel put out an unmemorable self-titled album in 1971 of original material in blues-rock, roots rock, soft folk-rock, and progressive rock styles. Although they did work on a second album, it never came out, and they broke up in 1972.

Galadriel's sole album is pretty derivative early-'70s rock with vague progressive leanings. Collectors who have inundated themselves with releases by second- and lower-division bands in the hopes of discovering something new and exciting will likely have their hearts sink when the ho-hum boogie cock rock of the opening track, "Amble On," kicks in. Not everything on the record sinks to that level, but some of it does, like the grim bluesy rock of "Girl of Seventeen." And if much of the rest isn't as objectionable, it's certainly often derivative. "She Left Her Lover at Home" uses flute in the manner of early Jethro Tull, "Working" too closely resembles the older blues-folk number "Neighbor Neighbor," and "Lady Was a Thief" certainly seems motivated by early Band songs like "The Weight." Their folkiest tunes are the best, with "Mind Games"'s squeaky harmonica bearing a casual likeness to some early Country Joe & the Fish.

Doug Bligh / drums
Gary Lothian / guitar
Mike Parker / bass, flute

Bruce Belbin / bass

Ithaca - A Game For All Who Know (1973 UK Psych Rock Prog Folk)

QUE VENENO BOM!! TRANQUILO E VIAJANTE SEM ALUCINAÇÕES!! TRATA-SE DE UMA BANDA MULTI-INSTRUMENTAL QUE USA ORGAN, HARMÔNICA, MANDOLIN, PIANO E PERCUSSÃO NUMA MISTURA DE FOLK ROCK E PSICODELIA PROGRESSIVA DE PRIMEIRA LINHA!! VOCAL FEMININO PERFEITO E HARMONIOSO DA FÊMEA "LEE MENELAUS"!! BELÍSSIMO VENENO!!!!

Ithaca is a multi-instrumental band with organ, auto harp, mandolin, piano, organ, recorder and percussion. The music is a combination of pastoral folk rock, psychedelia and progressive rock with gentle male/female vocals with Lee Menelaus.

First off, don't be deceived by the shitty album cover, because this is a really good album. Ithaca was a British band that played melodic, progressive psych-folk. This is their last album, which was a private-pressed LP that never gained much attention. Most of the album is fairly sparse, sophisticated arrangements of acoustic guitar and electric organ accompanied by male and female vocals that trade off very naturally and pleasantly. There is some use of piano, electric guitar, strings, Mellotron, and recorder, which are all subtle and well integrated.

Most of the songs are songs within songs, so there are a number of drastic changes that are very well conceived compositionally and thematically. I've had this album for a while now and it continues to grow on me more and more, especially considering my initial copy's tracks were out of sequence. I find it to be very compelling lyrically, thematically and stylistically. There just seems to be a lot going on that isn't initially apparent.

1. Journey (4:56)
2. Questions (4:03)
3. Times (8:19)

Fuchsia - Fuchsia (1973 UK Prog Rock Acid Folk)

GRANDE VOCAL FEMININO E UM SOM QUE MISTURA ROCK PROGRESSIVO COM PITADAS ACID FOLK!! EXCELENTE VENENO!!

First legit reissue of this UK folk album, originally issued in 1971 on Kingdom Records. Digipak with 16 page book of lyrics, notes and photos. "Their sole 1971 LP straddled gothic beauty and horror, and remains a surreal blend of joy and madness, a bewitching compound of gothic acid-folk, Canterbury whimsy and pop melody, complete with Pre-Raphaelite female backing vocals and highly ornate string arrangements...Fuchsia was unpredictable yet teemed with melody: eloquent string arrangements and rock rhythms collided and meshed with results veering from tempestuous to pastoral. 'Gone with the Mouse', and 'A Tiny Book' brought Syd Barrett-esque naiveté, 'Shoes and Ships' and the Durant/Chudley Louise-era collaboration 'Another Nail' were set to sweeping orchestral arrangements, while 'The Nothing Song' hovered in the realm of psychedelia . Then they added dreamy pop-rock with Chudley's 'Me and My Kite'(also from the Louise repertoire) and Durant's 'Just Anyone'..."

Tony Durant / acoustic & electric guitars, vocals
Michael Day / bass
Michael Gregory / drums, percussion
Janet Rogers / violin, backing vocals
Madeleine Bland / cello, piano, harmonium, backing vocals
Vanessa Hall-Smith / violin, backing vocals
