REQUEST: Andrew - Woops (1973 Iceland Heavy Psych Rock) Ex-Icecross

MAIS UM VENENO RARÍSSIMO VINDO DA ISLÂNDIA!! ESTE É MORTAL, ALUCINANTE E TOTALMENTE RARO, VISTO QUE SÓ FOI PRODUZIDO 500 CÓPIAS DESTE ALBUM!! O LP ORIGINAL, CASO ALQUEM CONSIGA TER A FELICIDADE DE ENCONTRAR, CERTAMENTE VAI PAGAR UMA BOA GRANA!! A BANDA TEM ALTO "PEDIGREE", POIS TRATA-SE DA EX-BANDA ICECROSS, CUJO ALBUM JÁ FOI POSTADO ANTERIORMENTE AQUI NESTE BLOG!! ALTAMENTE RECOMENDADO!!

Woops is the only album by Andrew, the Icecross related band from Iceland. This is heavy psych rock from 1973 with wild acid guitar runs and English lyrics. The album ranges from weird heavy funk guitar psych to outer space jams. It`s ripped from the recent reissue, or maybe it was a bootleg reissue, I`m not sure. I haven’t seen it for sale anywhere recently, so I`m guessing the re-release is out of print now. The original LP sells for up to 600 $, which is a tad bit pricey for any album imho. Anyway man, this is a very good album that will appeal a lot of all fans`ish type of rock, and to all fans of good music.

Bintangs - I'm On My Own Again (1969-72 Holland Blues Rock)

GRUPO HOLANDES QUE SE FORMOU FAZENDO COVERS DO ROCK SESSENTISTA E QUE DEPOIS SE TORNOU UM DOS GRANDES GRUPOS DE BLUES ROCK DA HOLANDA!! The Bintangs from Beverwijk were originally named Rocket Dynes and Black Phantoms. They didn't only become known for their rough, smoky Hoogoven-born sound, but also for their great number of line-up changes. In the 60's, especially in the province of Noord-Holland, they had a firm following, which, in the cities of Beverwijk and Haarlem, manifested itself in posters plastered on many walls and even a gigantic gas tank with their name painted on it. Once at the Kennemer Theater, which was the place for open-air appearances at the time, the whole floor was crushed and demolished into pieces by the over-enthusiastic fans. Despite this, the Bintangs (Malay for "stars") remained one of the most underrated groups in the Netherlands.

This is the most complete summary of the group's members:
Drums: Nono Piepelenbos (59) Rob Wijsters (59-60) Fred Maas (60) Gerry Ottenvanger (60) Leo van Olfen (60) Jimmy Jansen (60-63) Henk van Besu (63-66) Peter de Leeuwe (66-67, ex-Hottlets & Moans, to Los Zomos & Ekseption) Frans Kroon (67, ex-Hamlets) Henk van Norden (67-68) Hermke Klaasen (68, ex-Blues Vocation) Harry Schierbeek (68, to Kraayeveld) Aad Hooft (68-74, to Oscar Benton) Harry Schierbeek (74).

Solo Guitar: Arthy Kraayeveld (59-68, ex-Garred Boys) Jan Wijte (68-69) Arthy (69-70, then to Kraayeveld) Jan Wijte (70-72) Rob ten Bokum (72-74, ex-Panda, to Blue Eyed Bluesband) Jaap Castricum (74-75, to Dais and Arthy Kraayeveld) Ben de Bruin (75, ex-Rob Hoeke and Flash & Dance Band), Albert Schiebeek (ex-Kraayeveld).

Keyboards: Jan Wijte (67-69) Rob van Donselaar (69-74) Jaap Castricum (74-75). Bass: Frank Kraayeveld (69-70, ex-Sky Rockets) James Schab (60-62) Ronald Krom (70-74, ex-Turquoise) Frank Kraayeveld (74).

FIVE DAY RAIN - Five Day Rain (1969 UK Psych)

VENENO RARO E MUITO LEGAL DE CURTIR!! O SOM É PSICODELIA COM PITADAS POP E FOLK!! TEM VOCAL FEMININO MUITO LOUCO!! O TECLADISTA "GRAHAM MAITLAND" PARTICIPOU DA ÓTIMA BANDA PSICODÉLICA "FLEUR DE LYS"!! SUGIRO PRESTAR ATENÇÃO NA FAIXA 4 QUE TEM UM ÓTIMO TRABALHO DE GUITARRA NUMA LONGA TRIP DE 11 MINUTOS!! FAIXA 2 UM BELO TECLADO PSYCH TRABALHANDO LEGAL!! VENENO LIGHT, DE VIAGEM BOA, TRANQUILA E SEM MUITA ALUCINAÇÃO!!

Factory/Fleur de Lys connected early '70s UK psych monster with all the right moves. Sounds like the aforementioned bands with dash of Ogden's period Small Faces. Great guitar work particularly on the long trippy instumental "Rough Cut Marmalade".... Ace album.

One of the rarest UK albums; just 15 copies of this album were put out but soon after someone circulated 'white label' copies of it so beware of these. Graham Maitland had earlier been in Scots Of St James and Hopscotch. He was also in The Fleur de Lys in their final days. The album contained some adventurous pop compositions often with a taint of psychedelia but it was eventually put out as a private pressing in a plain white cover because no label was interested in it. Notable cuts are the 11-minute instrumental Rough Cut Marmalade, which is the album's most psychedelic offering; the catchy Sea Song and keyboard driven Leave It At That.

The CD reissue omitted Too Much Of Nothing and tampered with Marie's A Woman. Graham Maitland was later in Glencoe but the other members quit the music business.

Graham Maitland - keyboards, vocals, moog and mellotron.
Rick Sharpe - Lead/rhythm , six and twelve string acoustic guitars, harmonica and vocals.
Clive Burges - bass
Kim Haworth - drums
Sharon Tandy – backing vocals
John Holbrock (Guitar)
Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell & Dan Peek - Backing vocals

01. Marie's a Woman 2.46
02. Leave It At That 4.30
03. Don't Be Misled 2.18
04. Rough Cut Marmalade 11.04
05. Goodyear 4.01
06. Sea Song 4.12

REPOST: MASON - Harbour (1971 US Hard Rock Prog Bluesy)

BOM DISCO DE HARD ROCK COM ALGUNS LAMPEJOS PROGRESSIVOS E BLUESY!! GREAT ALBUM HEAVY ROCK!! BANDA AMERICANA DA VIRGINIA!! NA VERDADE ERA UM POWER TRIO ALTAMENTE COMPETENTE QUE FAZIA UM ROCK REGADO A UM PODEROSO ORGAN E TAMBÉM SAX E FLAUTA!! SÓ POSSO DIZER QUE É RARO E O SOM UM VENENO MUITO LOUCO!! ALTAMENTE RECOMENDADO PRA QUEM CURTIA DEEP PURPLE OU JETHRO TULL E PRA QUEM NÃO CURTIA NEHUM DELES TAMBÉM, PORQUE CONSIDERO MELHOR QUE ELES!!!

This hard rock album from 1971 by a Virginia trio has one great standout track: the acoustic guitar driven "Golden Sails", performed entirely by Jim Gaylon and sounding quite similar to Jethro Tull. This song alone is worth the price of admission! Other standouts include the organ-powered, heavy rock of "Let It Burn" (complete with bluesy vocals and great flute and organ solos) and the long, lumbering title track "Harbour".

There aren't many weak moments musically. Fans of heavy rock with booming bass, drums, and organ will find a lot of meat on this one. Lovers of early Jethro Tull and heavy organ bands (like Deep Purple) could very well get into this. Includes two unreleased bonus tracks, with "One More Drink" (clocking in at 39 seconds) being another acoustic ballad reminiscent of Ian Anderson. Informative liner notes. Another hard rock rarity available at last.

1. Let It Burn
2. Tell Me
3. Electric Sox and All
4. Golden Sails
5. Travelin'
6. Harbour
7. Goin' Home
8. Charlotte
9. Carry Me Home (unreleased)
10. One More Drink (unreleased)

Magic Sand - Magic Sand (1970 Blues Rock Country Psych)

RARIDADE MÁXIMA!!
HIGH RARITY!!

ALBUM OBSCURO QUE FICOU MUITO TEMPO NA CLANDESTINIDADE ATÉ MESMO ENTRE COLECIONADORES EM POTENCIAL!!
NÃO HÁ PRATICAMENTE NADA DE INFORMAÇÕES SOBRE A BANDA NEM MESMO NA INTERNET!! PROVAVELMENTE A BANDA FOI FORMADO NO FINAL DOS ANOS 60 POR UMA COMUNIDADE CRISTÃ APENAS COMO UM PROJETO DE ESTÚDIO!! ESTE VERDADEIRO ARTEFATO PERDIDO FOI LANÇADO EM 197O PELA PELA GRAVADORA UNI RECORDS!! NAS INFORMAÇÕES DO ALBUM É DEFINIDO COMO UMA BANDA BLUES/PSYCH EMBORA EU ACHO QUE NÃO SEJA TOTALMENTE ISSO, POIS NAS 11 FAIXAS DO DISCO HÁ 7 BLUES OU RHYTHM BLUES, UM INSTRUMENTAL COM USO DE VIOLINO, 2 FOLKS/COUNTRY COM USO DE BANJO E ALGUMA PSICODELIA!! TALVEZ UMA DEFINIÇÃO FINAL SEJA ALGO ENTRE BOOGIE/BLUES/ROCK E GARAGEM POP COM ALGUNS ELEMENTOS COUNTRY!! O ALBUM TEM AQUELELA TÍPICA SEPARAÇÃO STEREO DOS ANOS 60 QUE MANTINHA A BATERIA NO CANAL ESQUERDO E A MAIORIA DOS INSTRUMENTOS NO CANAL ESQUERDO!!

Another record that remains undiscovered and is stuck in the wishlists of several collectors for a long time. No information available about this band, just unconfirmed relations with a couple New Mexico bands (Hooterville Trolley and Xit). Released in 1970 on Uni Records (which released also the Strawberry Alarm Clock, Druids of Stonehedge, Alexander's Timeless Bloozband, and American Blues, along with R'n'B, Neil Diamond and Elton John records), this came out in a nice gatefold sleeve.

Very much a 1970 Earthy sound. Falls somewhere between Boogie/ Blues Rock and Garage Pop with some country elements. Typical 1960's stereo seperation keep drums on left channel, most other instruments on the right. The vocals are unencumbered by effects and sound very clear, though not strong enough for some of the material. I have no idea about this band and don't even remember how I came to own the record, but it's a somewhat pleasant surprise. However, if you're looking for some psychedelic pop as the cover may suggest, you will only find it in one song.

The best songs are "Listen to What's Not Being Said" (anti-war/ cover-up conspiracy), "The Good Lord Willing" (down-home nod), and "Get Ready to Fly" (pysch-pop blatantly concerning dropping acid). It's a cool find and a great listen if you skip over the middle of Side Two.

Listen to What's Not Being
Thinking Out Loud
I Take What I Want
Down on My Knees
Good Lord Willing
You Better Be Ready
Get Ready to Fly
It's Your Thing
Baby, What You Want Me to Do

Neil Merryweather - Ivar Avenue Reunion (1970 US Rock Blues)

UMA JAM SESSION DE "GENTE GRANDE"!! OLHA QUEM PARTICIPA DO DISCO E NÃO PRECISA FALAR MAIS NADA!! UMA SESSÃO HISTÓRICA E UM LP ALTAMENTE RARO!! COMO A RIPAGEM É DE VINIL SÓ TEM A CAPA PEQUENA!!

AMG REVIEW: The record-consuming public of the '70s was enthusiastic enough about jam sessions to have been offered all kinds of products such as this album, the contents of which beg the question of just what is a jam session, anyway? In this case, the liner notes hint at a casual get-together of various friends, with the cast of characters extending well beyond the confines of the four names listed under the album title. The music these individuals come up with is more like the type of song material rock artists put on a formal album.

There is really not much jamming, other than a concluding group improvisation given the title of "Toe Jam," an unappetizing decision seeing how it is preceded by "Walkin' Shoes" and "Run, Run Children" before that. This hint of an obsession with sweaty feet is the only consistent thing about an album that is simply all over the place, depending on who is taking charge of any given song. Charlie Musselwhite can do a shuffle blues, so he contributes that. Barry Goldberg is a familiar hand at jams, but also co-writes songs with vocalist Lynn Carey that require a flutist and French horn player to augment the group. In the former case, hiring one that plays out of tune is not something that benefits the song at all. On the plus side, certain types of grooves are nailed dead-on.
The recording aggregation, who collectively pose on the back cover and for the most part do not look like people one would want to invite over for the evening, bite down solidly on an Otis Spann cover entitled "After While." It is the "Smokestack Lightning" groove, with the results actually an improvement over the sound of Musselwhite's own blues recordings. "Fast Train" is a good example of type of joyous but overlong rock-gospel tracks that were popular in the '70s, with solid vocalizing from Carey. ? Eugene Chadbourne

Thunderduk - Thunderduk (1974 US Hard Rock Psych)

BOM VENENO AMERICANO!! A BANDA GRAVOU APENA ESSE ALBUM QUE É RARO E CONTÉM GRAVAÇÕES ENTRE 1972 E 1974!! NÃO SEI SE A DEFINIÇÃO HARD ROCK SERIA O IDEAL, MAS SIM UM HARD ROCK COM PITADAS WEST COAST PSYCHEDELIC!! GOOD POISON!!

A highly uncommercial Cleveland, Ohio rock group. Their recordings are rather hit and miss affairs. All nine cuts on the Rockadelic album are originals. The finer moments include the driving guitar on opener Why Don't You Love Me?, the fine jamming guitar work on Time And Again and, by contrast, the mellow slow-paced Something To Look At with its dominant percussion work.

The recordings on the Rockadelic album span the 1972 - 74 period when their desire to play original music and their on stage antics made them one of the top draws on the Cleveland Club scene. Bob Turchek was later replaced on drums by ex-Catscradle drummer Rick Fischer. Most of the material on the Rockadelic album was played by the band on two Agency Studio live broadcasts carried by local station WNCR.

Band photos and raw opening track may tempt one to file this among the typical Rockadelic teenage basement hardrock blowouts, but in actuality this is a local prog/jazzrock affair that's a bit left field both for the label and my hi-fi. The uptempo, energetic excursions suffer from so-so songwriting and a dry, clinical soundscape that cries out for keyboards, fuzz and feedback, and jars with the distorted vocals. Liner notes claim they were a big draw live but it doesn't really sound like it, and there's an odd atonal and out of synch feel to the recording as a whole -- but maybe that's right for the genre. Couple of OK tracks, but too little guitar, and neither psych, folk nor hardrock; may appeal to fans of the UK hard prog scene. 1972-1974 recordings.

Yahowa 13 & Sky Saxon - Golden Sunrise (1977 Acid Rock Psych)

MAIS UMA OBRA QUE JUNTA O MESTRE SKY SAXON E YAHOWA 13 NUM DISCO RECHEADO DE ACIDEZ E PSICODELIA!! O ALBUM FOI LANÇADO EM VINIL PELA PSYCHO RECORDS NA INGLATERRA SOMENTE EM 1982 E MISTURA O ESTILO PSICODÉLICO DE SKY SAXON E OS TAMBORES TRIBAIS PSYCH TRADICIONAIS DA BANDA YAHOWA 13!! YAHOWA 13 FOI FORMADA EM 1969 EM LOS ANGELES E ERA LIDERADA PELO PADRE YOD, UM LÍDER ESPIRITUAL DE UMA COMUNIDADE RELIGIOSA CHAMADA SOURCE FAMILY!! OS CRÉDITOS DESSE DISCO MUITAS VEZES APARECE COMO SENDO DA BANDA "FIRE WATER AIR" QUE NADA MAIS É QUE O OUTRO NOME QUE A BANDA YAHOWA 13 USOU POSTERIORMENTE!! UM VENENO DIRETO NA TESTA!!

Sky Sunlight/Arelich appears on three nominal "Yahowha 13" releases, all of them from the time after Father Yod's fatal hanggliding crash in Hawaii August 1975. "Golden Sunrise" was released (on 8-track only) in 1977 as by Fire Water Air and features Sky alongside the nucleus of Yahowha musicians Djinn, Pythias, Octavius and Sunflower. The album, which was released on vinyl by Psycho Records in England 1982, shows distinct traces of both Sky's droning 1970s psych-rock style, as well as the tribal jam orientation of the regular Yahowha albums. It's an essential experience for those interested in the style and personages. Some alternate takes from the recording session appear on the 13-CD Yahowha box set on the Japanese Captain Trips label, and side 2 of "Sky Saxon -- Masters Of Psychedelia" on New Rose (France, 1984) has been reported as outtakes from Fire Water Air.
