HELL PREACHERS INC. - Supreme Psychedelic Underground (1969 UK Hard Blues Psychedelia)

UM CLÁSSICO DA PSICODELIA OBSCURA!! ESTE ALBUM É ATÉ HOJE CERCADO DE CONTROVÉRSIAS!! REZA A LENDA DE QUE O ALBUM FOI FEITO COM A PARTICIPAÇÃO DOS MEMBROS DO DEEP PURPLE, JOHN LORD, RITCHIE BLACKMORE E IAN PAICE, O QUE FOI NEGADO POR ELES!! PORÉM, A SONORIDADE ANDA MUITO PERTO DO QUE O PURPLE FAZIA NOS TEMPOS DE "SHADES OF DEEP PURPLE", O QUE, APESAR DE EU NÃO TER PORQUE NÃO ACREDITAR NELES, SÓ AUMENTA ESSA POSSIBILIDADE!! OUTRA CONTROVÉRSIA É SE ERAM DA ALEMANHA OU REINO UNIDO!! TODAS AS REFERÊNCIAS REMETEM AO REINO UNIDO, MAS...!! O CERTO É QUE NÃO HÁ MUITAS INFORMAÇÕES SOBRE OS CARAS E QUE ESSE FOI O ÚNICO REGISTRO EM NOME DA BANDA!! MAS APESAR DAS DÚVIDAS O QUE IMPORTA MESMO É O SOM!! E A SONORIDADE DO ALBUM TEM UM BELÍSIMO TRABALHO DE ORGAN HAMMOND, PIROTECNIAS E DISTORÇÕES DE GUITARRAS WHA WHA E VOCAIS PSICODÉLICOS!! QUANTO A MUSICA, É BLUES ROCK COM ALTA DOSE DA PSICODELIA!! VENENO RARO, OBSCURO E ALTAMENTE RECOMENDADO!!

Amazing how much controversy there is surrounding this record! Deep Purple members as session men? The sound is sure close enough to make it believable. But they deny it! So why not believe them? It's not like they had any problem copping to session work once in a while Green Bullfrog . But it's also not as if there weren't a multitude of admirers who could very easily have duplicated Deep Purple riffs for this album, especially since DP was becoming a hot commodity around the time of this album's release, which, incidentally has many more people saying 1969 than '8. Hell, not many can even agree on where they were from - U.K. or Germany. My references all claim the U.K. As for the music, it's incredibly consistent hard blues rock with strong psych influences.

Lasting Weep - Lasting Weep (1969-1971 Canada Prog Jazz Rock Fusion)

VENENO RARO!! BANDA MUITO BOA QUE FAZIA UM PROGRESSIVO JAZZ ROCK DE EXCELÊNCIA E COM ALTAS DOSES DE FLAUTAS, BEM AO ESTILO DA JETHRO TULL!!

O ALBUM FLUI NATURALMENTE COM BOA MUSICA E COM BONS MUSICOS!! A BANDA FOI FORMADA EM 1968 E FAZIA INICIALMENTE UM BLUES ROCK  DE BANDAS COMO HENDRIX E TEN YEARS AFTER!! MAS UMA PAIXÃO REPENTINA PELO ROCK PROGRESSIVO, ESPECIALMENTE PELA BANDA JETHRO TULL, FEZ COM QUE ELES PRODUZISSEM SUA PRÓPRIA MÚSICA, E AÍ VEIO ESSE ALBUM MUITO BOM E COM FORTE INFLUÊNCIA DO JETHRO TULL, ESPECIALMENTE PELA BOA FLAUTA QUE ROLA LEGAL EM PRATICAMENTE TODAS AS CANÇÕES!! EM 1971 A LASTING WEEP COMEÇOU A ESCREVER UMA OPERA ROCK INTITULADA DE "L'ALBATROZ", PORÉM A BANDA SE DESFEZ E O PROJETO TOMOU O MESMO RUMO!! MAS NO INÍCIO DE 1976 UMA REVIRAVOLTA DO DESTINO FEZ COM QUE OS MEMBROS DA BANDA SE ENCONTRASSEM NOVAMENTE!! A PARTIR DAÍ REALIZARAM UMA SÉRIE DE PERFORMANCES AO VIVO PRA TOCAR ESSA ÉPICA OPERA ROCK "L'ALBATROS" QUE HAVIAM ESCRITO ANTES DA BANDA TERMINAR!! ESTES SHOWS FORAM PROFISSIONALMENTE GRAVADOS E MIXADOS MAS NUNCA LANÇADO EM DISCO!! FELIZMENTE, EM 2007, AS MASTER TAPES FORAM RECUPERADAS, JUNTAMENTE COM AS MASTERS DAS SESSÕES DE ESTUDIO DE 1969 E MAIS ALGUNS OUTROS MATERIAIS!! ASSIM SURGIU ENTÃO ESSE VENENO DE MUITO BOA QUALIDADE MUSICAL E RECOMENDADO!!

Lasting Weep was formed in 1968 by Jerome Langlois (guitar, piano, clarinet), Alain Bergeron (flute), Mathieu Leger (percussions) and Claude Chapleau (bass) when they were just teenagers. The group's name was derived from Paul Verlaine's poem "Chanson d'Automne" ("Les sanglots longs..."), and was in English as was still the case with all rock groups from Quebec (Offenbach Soap Opera, WD Fisher, The Medium...) until the end of the decade. Lasting Weep's cover repertoire was heavily influenced by blues-rock (Hendrix, Ten Years After, etc.), and combined with classical music training and a new fascination for progressive rock (particularly Jethro Tull), the group began composing its own music. In 1969, having earned some studio time while working as session musicians (mainly for soundtracks), Lasting Weep professionally recorded three lengthy pieces which were never put on vinyl as the group was unable to attract a record label. The band played many shows in cafés and clubs, and was even invited to back-up King Crimson at College St-Laurent, and also played at the Festival de Manseau in 1970. In 1971, Lasting Weep began writing a rock opera entitled "L'Albatros", but in 1972 the group disbanded, and Langlois and Bergeron founded Maneige. Léger then joined the Quatuor de Jazz Libre du Québec, and played with Michel Madore, followed by Conventum, and eventually L'Orchestre Sympathique in 1976, while Chapleau went on to produce. In a strange twist of fate, just as he was leaving Maneige in early 1976, Langlois completed writing "L'Albatros" and convinced a who's who of progressive rock musicians to join him on stage to play his rock opera live. In February 1976, at La Bibliothèque Nationale in Montreal, Langlois was joined by his former bandmates from both Maneige and Lasting Weep, as well as Raôul Duguay, members of L'Orchestre Sympathique, Conventum, L'Engoulevent and others, to perform a series of live performances of his epic "L'Albatros", surely one of the most important events in Quebec's progressive music history. These shows were professionally recorded and mixed but never released on vinyl. Luckily, the master tapes were recovered, along with the masters of the 1969 studio sessions and some other material. And it is so that ProgresSon Music released the band's first commercial releases in 2007, on its ProgQuebec label."

Paris - Paris (1975 UK Hard Rock)

BOM POWER TRIO FORMADO E LIDERADO POR "ROBERT WELCH", EX-MEMBRO DA FLEETWOOD MAC, MAIS "GLENN CORNICK", EX-BAIXISTA E TECLADISTA DA JETHRO TULL, E "THOM MOONEY", EX-BATEIRISTA DA NAZZ!! UM POWER TRIO BEM LEGAL!! TODAS AS COMPOSIÇÕES FORAM FEITAS POR WELCH!! A GRAVADORA À ÉPOCA DO LANÇAMENTO DO ALBUM QUASE NEM PROMOVEU O ALBUM E POR ISSO TORNOU-SE UMA PEÇA OBSCURA DO HARD SETENTISTA!! A SONORIDADE É HARD ROCK COM BASE NO BLUES BEM BACANA!! NA FAIXA "RELIGION" NITIDAMENTE TEM INFLUÊNCIA DE LED ZEPPELIN, DESDE O VOCAL ATÉ A SONORIDADE, QUE POR VEZES LEMBRA "NOBODY FAULT BUT MINE" DO LED!! PARA FÃS DE ROBERT WELCH E PRINCIPALMENTE DO HARD ROCK SETENTISTA VALE A PENA DAR UM TÉKINHO NESSE VENENO!! VENENO RARO E RECOMENDADO!!

Power trio Hard Rock former by Fleetwood Mac guitarist and vocalist Robert Welch, Paris recorded their self-titled debut LP for Capitol Records under the production reign of Jimmy Robinson, at the Record Plant in Los Angeles. The quickly-assembled power trio, filled out by ex-Jethro Tull bassist/keyboardist Glenn Cornick and one-time Nazz drummer Thom Mooney, wasted little time laying down the ten tracks that comprise the under-the-radar recording.

Digitally remastered reissue and first time on CD for this cult classic. Formed by ex-Fleetwood Mac guitarist Bob Welchand former Jethro Tull bassist Glenn Cornick, their debut album is steeped in mysticism and all things occult. Highlights include the explosive 'Black Book' and the vitriolic 'Religion'. After recording the Fleetwood Mac album Heroes Are Hard to Find, Bob Welch left that group and formed Paris.

PS: Thanks to PHROCK blog where I saw this CD for the first time!! I bought the CD and now he's here in my blog!!

18 KARAT GOLD - All-Bumm (1973 German Prog Pop Kraut Psych)

VENENO RARO!! RARE POISON!!
BANDA FORMADA POR MEMBROS DO "AMON DUUL II", "MOTHERHOOD E "EMBRYO", PORTANTO, COM ALTO PEDIGREE!! TODOS OS MEMBROS DA "18 KARAT GOLD" FORAM MEMBROS DA AMON DUUL II EM ALGUM MOMENTO, MAS NÃO TODOS AO MESMO TEMPO!! POR EXEMPLO, "KEITH FORSEY" EM 1973 (PARTICIPOU TAMBÉM DA "HALLELUJAH" EM 1971 E DA MOTERHOOD)!! "LOTHAR MEID" EM 1970 ATÉ 1973 (AINDA PARTICIPOU DE BANDAS COMO "PASSPORT" E "UTOPIA")!! E TANTO "KLAUS EBERT" QUANTO "JORG EVERS" NO FINAL DOS ANOS 70 (PARTICIPOU TAMBÉM DA "EMBRYO")!! KLAUS, QUE LIDERAVA A BANDA, TINHA APENAS 18 ANOS QUANDO 18 KARAT GOLD GRAVOU ESSE SEU PRIMEIRO E UNICO ALBUM!!

A SONORIDADE É KRAUTROCK POP PROGRESSIVO COM ALGUMAS PITADAS LEVES DA PSICODELIA, MAS APRESENTADO DE UMA FORMA MAIS COMERCIAL, MAIS SIMPLES!! A COMEÇAR PELA DURAÇÃO DAS FAIXAS!! SEMPRE MUSICAS CURTAS VISANDO UM PUBLICO MAIS COMERCIAL!! RESUMINDO: SÃO QUATRO BRILHANTES ESTRÊLAS DO KRAUT-JAZZ-ROCK ALEMÃO RENIDOS PRA TOCAR MUSICA "UM POUCO MAIS FÁCIL" DIGAMOS ASSIM!! SE PENSARMOS NO PEDIGREE DOS CARAS PODEMOS DIZER QUE HÁ UMA CERTA DECEPÇÃO, POIS CERTAMENTE TODOS ESPERAM MAIS DELES!! É TIPO "MARÓFA MISTURADA"!! É UM DISCO BEM IRREGULAR, MAS VALE PELA RARIDADE E PRA CONHECER UM POUCO MAIS SOBRE ESTES ALEMÃES QUE FIZERAM HISTÓRIA NO KRAUTROCK SETENTISTA!!

I am very surprised to see that this album has not been adopted into Amon Duul II's discography the way the 1973 Utopia album has been. All the members of 18 Karat Gold have been in Amon Duul II at one time or another, but not all at the same time. Keith Forsey was in AD II in 1973, Lothar Meid was part of the band 1970 through 1973 and both Klaus Ebert and Jorg Evers were in the late 70's version of the band.
------------------
(Review from Crack in the Cosmic Egg, progarchives.com)

An early supergroup borne out of the prolific Munich scene fronted by American-German Klaus Ebert. The idea behind 18 Karat Gold seems to have been to present krautrock in a commercial dilute form to the pop public. Four bright stars of the German kraut/jazz stage were inspired to join into a project for the sheer sound of “easy music”. Highlights include the guitar tune in “Going Home” (which can be considered symphonic); a bit more heavy and instrumental “Goldrush”; even more symphonic in its tempered, but warm sound would be “Star-Eyed”, instead the vocals ease out yet again, while the guitar contrasts with a decent psych-like flavour. This sole album is very much like late 1970s Amon Duul II and indeed features band members who would all work with Amon Duul II at some time or another.

REQUEST: Sitting Bull - Trip Away (1971 German "West Coast" Rock Psych)

UM VENENO BOM E RARO!! OS CARAS, APESAR DE SEREM ALEMÃOS, FAZIAM UM ROCK PSICODÉLICO TÍPICO DAS BANDAS CALIFORNIANAS AMERICANAS, LEMBRANDO A BANDA QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE!! GUITARRAS ACUSTICAS E ELÉTRICAS COM OCASIONAIS TECLADOS DOMINAM O SOM DA BANDA!! O DISCO JÁ COMEÇA PODEROSO COM A PRIMEIRA FAIXA "TRIP AWAY" COM SEUS 11 MINUTOS DE UM ROCK PSYCH DE ALTA COMPETÊNCIA!! ALGUMAS MUSICAS NO INÍCIO SOAM MEIO DESPERETENSIOSAS MAS EVOLUEM RAPIDAMENTE, PORTANTO, É UM DISCO QUE MERECE UMA AUDIÇÃO MAIS DETALHADA PRA VOCÊ SENTIR QUE É UM BOM DISCO, UMA BOA BANDA E UM VENENO RECOMENDADO!!

Originally released on CBS in 1971, and now for the first time on CD. These 4 guys from Bremen (Northern Germany) played with US Westcoast feel in some ways comparable to Quicksilver, but with the unique Kraut flavour. Electric and accoustic guitars with occasional keyboards dominate the jamming sound. Outstanding is the title track Trip Away -- really a good comittment, that will be hold within the 11 mins!

WESTFAUSTER– In A King’s Dream (1971 US Progressive Rock)

POWER TRIO PROGRESSIVO QUE FAZIA UM SOM COM MELODIAS LEVES, SÓBRIAS, COM PITADAS DO JAZZ E PINGOS DE PSICODELIA!! A UTILIZAÇÃO DA FLAUTA, SAX, CRAVOS, PIANO E TECLADOS DÁ UMA HARMONIA BEM INTERESSANTE ÀS MÚSICAS DA BANDA!! O ALBUM FOI GRAVADO PELO SELO "NASCO" QUE TINHA LANÇADO ALBUNS DE BANDAS COMO FELT, WALEFEATHERS E ELECTRIC TOILET, PORÉM, A WESTFAUSTER NÃO TEVE A MESMA SORTE DESSAS OUTRAS BANDAS E FICOU APENAS NESSE ÚNICO ALBUM QUE É MUITO LEGAL DE SE OUVIR!! VENENO RARO E RECOMENDADO!!

Released in 1971 on the Nasco label (Felt, Whalefeathers, Electric Toilet), the much sought-after In A King’s Dream is essentially solid prog rock, doused with jazz and psych, that is at times progressive, especially when the flute is in the forefront. Hailing from Cincinnati Westfauster drew influence from the well-known British bands of the day, (in particular The Beatles and Moody Blues). A rich use of instruments, especially keyboard, give a dreamlike feel to this interesting work.

They may sound like the quintessential English prog band but, in fact, Westfauster hailed from the rust belt, Cincinnati to be precise, and this gem of an album was initially released on the Nasco label in 1971. A guitar-free trio, the band did encompass a rhythm section, a variety of keyboards from harpsichord to Moog synthesizer, and a flute and saxophone within their multi-instrumental ranks. The Moody Blues and the Beatles were Westfauster's avowed influences, and you could hear subtle inflections of both on In a King's Dream. Blissful jazz ripples through the epic "Everyday," one of a clutch of flute-led numbers on the set. On that song, it's twinned with piano and organ; on "Blind Man's Epitaph" the flute flutters and flies amidst the harpsichord and choral vocals; and the harpsichord itself is showcased again on the Beatles-esque "Low Sun." In contrast, the title track, the album's other epic number, is resplendent with smoky sax, the darker, more majestic flip of the breezier, lighter "Everyday." All three bandmembers obviously had some jazz background, and it's their ability to fold elements of that style gently into the musical mix that perhaps truly sets Westfauster apart, notably on the two epics, "Where Are You" and the album closer "Did It or Didn't It (Take Us High)." That and the delicate textures of their songs and the wonderfully shimmering and dreamy quality of their atmospheres. With its subtle shifts in mood and style, luminescent sound, and lovely, reverberated harmonies, King's Dream reaches transcendental heights. Unlike their more extravagant contemporaries, Westfauster never flamboyantly highlight the musical journey or magnificent musicianship, preferring a more elegant, understated stance that allows this album to glow in all its glory. ~ Jo-Ann Greene, Rovi

THE ABSTRACT SOUND - EP (1967 US GARAGE PUNK PSYCH)

EP RARÍSSIMO!! RAREST EP!!
BANDA FUNDADA COMO ABSTRACK SOUND E COM ESSA GRAFIA GRAVOU DOIS SINGLES EM 1966, CUJAS MUSICAS ESTÃO NESSA POSTAGEM COMO BÔNUS TRACK EXCLUSIVO DO VENENOS DO ROCK!! JÁ O SEUS DOIS PRÓXIMOS SINGLES GRAVADOS EM 1967, QUE É O EP DESSA POSTAGEM, ELES JÁ ASSINAVAM COMO ABSTRACT SOUND!! APESAR DE NO RÓTULO CONSTAR A ORIGEM DOS CARAS COMO BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, A BANDA ERA MESMO DE SPRINGFIELD, NEW JERSEY!! VENENO RARÍSSIMO E RECOMENDADO!!

The Abstrack Sound / Abstract Sound
Submitted by Chas Kit on October 23, 2007 - 10:04pm. Abstrack Sound | Abstract Sound | US | New Jersey | CBM | Gray Sounds | Sound of Sou Something of a mystery, my understanding is that although their second 45 has a Brooklyn, NY address on the label, the band was actually from Springfield, NJ. The misspelled Your Gona Break My Heart has some cool slide effects on the intro, a fine guitar break and lots of echo. It was released with the band listed as the Abstrack Sound, on the CBM label in 1966, with a moody Judge Him If You Can on the flip. On their second record, the stomping I'm Trying, they're called the Abstract Sound. This one was released twice in 1967, on the Gray Sounds and Sound of Soul labels, and was produced by E. M. Gray. Bill Monetti and C. Catena wrote their songs, along with Denis Dreher on the second 45. However, the Gray Sounds release lists Dreher as co-writing I'm Trying while the Sound of Soul release gives him co-credit on Blacked Out Mind. BMI lists him on both songs along with Monetti, and drops Catena altogether! Obviously someone screwed up the credits somewhere along the way. To make things still more confusing, the labels are reversed on my copy!

01 - The Abstract Sound - I'm Trying
02 - The Abstract Sound - Blacked Out Min

The Abstrack Sound - Your Gona Break My Heart (Bonus)

PEGGY'S LEG - Grinilla (1973 Irish Progressive Art Rock)

VENENO RARO!! RARE POISON!!
UNICO DISCO DESSA BOA BANDA IRLANDESA QUE FAZIA UM ROCK PROGRESSIVO, MEIO ART-ROCK, COM BOM TRABALHO INSTRUMENTAL E MUITAS VARIAÇÕES!! UMA PECUALIARIDADE É QUE OS CARAS NÃO USARAM TECLADOS NESSE ALBUM, O QUE NÃO ERA NADA COMUM EM BANDAS PROGRESSIVAS DA ÉPOCA!! MESMO ASSIM O TRABALHO FICOU DE ÓTIMA QUALIDADE!! VENENO RARO E RECOMENDADO!!

A História

Reissue for 1st time on CD of ULTRA RARE one and only album by Irish PROGRESSIVE rock outfit from the early 70's featuring the 6 tracks from the album including a wild frantic version of Love Sculpture's 'Sabre Dance' . Also included here as bonus their 45 which featured a demented version of the Williams Tell Overture. remastered, original artwork, 8 page booklet + rare photos etc.

Formed by ace guitarist Jimi Slevin, ex of Alice / Brogue towards the end of 1972, Peggy's Leg were known for their adaptations of classical music. Their live set included covers of Yes and Emerson Lake & Palmer as well as music by Bach ("a blistering rendition of Bach's Sinfonia from Cantata Nr. 29"), Katchaturian ("Sabre Dance"), Rossini ("William Tell Overture") and Handel. Their self-released album "Grinilla" came out in late 1973. Managed by John Donohue (Mushroom) who is credited with organising the recording of their self-released album that came out in 1973:

This is one of the rarest albums of the seventies. Peggy's Leg were an Irish classical rock outfit and their sole album was recorded in just 23 hours. 500 copies were pressed originally and as most were sold to local fans, originals are extremely difficult to locate nowadays, particularly with the inner lyric sheet. The album consisted of six tracks and, aside from an unadventurous cover version of Love Sculpture's Sabre Dance, they comprised self-penned compositions which forged frantic heavy rock sections with soft dreamlike passages into a series of well structured songs. They also recorded a pretty frantic and indeed demented version of the William Tell Overture, which was put out on a 45."--Kissing Spell PR blurb.

Tayles - Whoaretheseguys? (1972 US Psych Bluesy)

ALTÍSSIMA RARIDADE!! HIGHEST RARITY!!
BANDA AMERICANA OBSCURA COM UM ALBUM SUPER RARO E DE REEDIÇÃO PRIVADA ATRAVÉS DAS MASTER TAPES ORIGINAIS!! SÃO QUATRO MUSICAS DO EP E O RESTANTE GRAVADO AO VIVO NO NITTY GRITTY!! A SONORIDADE É PSYCHEDELIC ROCK COM ALGUMAS BATIDAS DO BLUES, LEVES PITADAS DO POP E DA HIPPIE MUSIC!! O USO DA FLAUTA EM ALGUMAS MUSICAS FICA BEM BACANA E O TRABLAHO DE GUITARA É EXPERIMENTAL E FRENÉTICO!! POR VEZES PERCEBEMOS ALGUMA INFLUENCIA DE GRATEFUL DEAD!! UM BOM E RARÍSSIMO VENENO!!

SUPER RARE private Psych LP from 1972!! Recorded live at the Nitty Gritty, this collection of blues-rock captures the musical feel of Vietnam-era Madison. Paul Reyzold's organ added pyschedelia that was as bright as a tie-dyed shirt; Scott Eakin's flute was as groovy as a VW bus. Jeremy Wilson started the band in 1966. Like hippie culture, Tayles faded away near the end of 1972.

Reissue of the one and only album by Madison, Wisconsin USA band. Orig. from the mastertapes, including also 2 tracks that that we banned from the radio. Strong influenced by "Grateful Dead" some part is R&B bar blues, some experimental guitar work, feat. some pretty frantic and melodramatic guitar sound. "Who are these guys?" may be a legitimate question when it comes to the quasi-psychedelic obscurity Tayles, but their one slice of rock, aptly enough titled Who Are These Guys?, is freewheeling and fun while maintaining some of the underlying menace that characterized the genre. That is not to say that the album necessarily belongs to the highest level of early-'70s psych -- it is, in fact, much closer to straight pop -- but the band's music was singular enough to deserve its regional popularity and its album good enough to have deserved a more widespread audience than it gained upon its release in 1972. Add to that the fact that the album was recorded entirely live and Who Are These Guys? shows the band to be talented, inventive musicians who were capable of writing solid, commercially ready songs that, nevertheless, passed by unheard outside the local area in their heyday. The Gear Fab reissue opens with each side of the 1971 double-gatefold Tayles single. Two of the songs, "Funny Paper Sam" and "It's High Time" were deemed too risqué for the AM radio censors but are actually a lulling pop song and a demented, slightly off-kilter rave-up, respectively, while the other two songs are also strong, including the good-time rock of "Bizarro Ben," somewhat of a signature song for the band and the only tune that shows up as part of the live set. From the beginning of the live album, Tayles displays its proficiency. The short, beautiful, flute-led "Introduction" segues into a "Bizarro Ben" that is more raucous than the studio version. From there, the band tears into an assortment of bassist Jeremy Wilson and guitarist Bob Schmidtke originals. There are recognizable influences in the music, but, for the most part, the band does not betray too significant of a debt to any of their more well-known contemporaries. They also have no problem investing their music with humorous, poppy, soulful, even schmaltzy elements, and all with interesting results. They can keep it short and sweet, as on "Did It," rip through quick, idiosyncratic blues ("Life on Other Planets Shuffle" and "Apocalypse Blues"), or let loose with some extended instrumental sections, as in "Black Widow Spider" and "Guitar." None of it will make a listener re-evaluate the state of rock music, but it offers at least a couple fun listens. ~ GREEN BRAIN

Limited edition of 500 numbered copies!! "Team Dokus was formed in 1968 after I had been squeezed out of another one-LP blues/progressive /rock super(?)group called Room (the Deram release Pre-Flight).  Mysterious and menacing 1971 acetate-only album from underground rockers. The album was recorded by Team Dokus in 1971 for the Sphere record label, a subsidiary of CBS. On the day of the recording, both Terry and I were suffering from one of the worst bouts of fluin our lives, and were only there because of the drugs and rum that the others had pumped into us. On top of that, we had played the Temple in Wardour Street the night before (and blown Nazareth off stage), and were going on to play Potters Bar Youth Club with Genesis (early days) the next night. That's explains why the vocals on the recording are so bad. They were meant to have been re-recorded later but it never happened. Team Dokus split shortly after recording the album, which is why I guess it wasn't released at the time." - Information regarding Team Dokus from founder member Roger Hope…

DeChristopher had met Price in 1967 at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. and joined Price's band, Still At Large. Over the next three years the band picked up other students and evolved into Fred. Classmate Gary Rosenberg was the band's No. 1 fan, a college radio DJ and sometime poet - he occasionally performed with them on stage and became their lyricist. He was also their guide to other sounds around, introducing them to the likes of Procol Harum, Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa and The Mahavishnu Orchestra whose songs they would cover.

In 1970 the band graduated (or left) BU and moved into a couple of farms near Lewisburg. They continued to perform at local clubs and schools. The first recordings, which make up the bulk of the LP, were done the following year and their debut 45 was released. In 1973 occasional member Peter Eggers joined the band permanently and marked the end of their formative chapter, with the departure of Gary Rosenberg. The liners announce that later recordings are forthcoming.

There's some fine fuzz solos and acidic leads with occasional wah-wah but despite being tagged as psychedelia elsewhere, there's a strong aura of mellowed, slightly trippy, pastoral rock that's coming from folk roots and gently drifting off in a prog/hippie direction. The violin adds to the non-urban vibe but is more like Curved Air than Mahavishnu.

Gary Rosenberg - Lyrics, Percussion

Bo Fox - Drums
Ken Price - Keyboards

A Chave - De ponta cabeça (1977 Brazilian Hard Rock)

DISCO RARÍSSIMO!! HIGH RARITY!!

A Chave was the forerunner of the rock group Parana, and served from 1969 to May 1979, when it was dissolved. Throughout his career, became the most important rock band of Curitiba and still revered today. The Key opened in the 70's all the doors and showed the ropes to the hundreds of bands that emerged in the city after its dissolution. When the band broke up, despite having more than 100 original songs - a good deal with the well-known poet and lyricist Paul Leminski - has left no record in LP, having just released by GTA Recordings Associated Tupi a rare single compact (1977), containing the songs and Hole in The Heart Cause Me to See, both in partnership with the Lemisnki. He played with grocers, Rita Lee & Tutti Frutti, Mutantes, O Terço, Made In Brazil, Casa das Máquinas, Joelho de Porco, Som Nosso de Cada Dia, Bixo da Seda and came to an open show of Bill Haley And his Comets, in Guaira (1975).

In mid-July 2004, four members of the defunct band The Key Curitiba - Ivo Rodrigues (vocals), Paulo Teixeira (guitar, vocals), Carlão Gaertner (bass) and Orlando Azevedo (drums) were caught by surprise with the discovery of a pirated CD of the group. The disc was found in a fair old record collectors in Sao Paulo, the owners of the store Vinyl Club in Curitiba, which gave away a copy of the singer Ivo, who currently plays in the band Shield, along with Paulo Teixeira. With the operational support of Marcia Teixeira - wife of guitarist Paul decided to pirate bootleg (10 live songs and two bonus tracks of the compact) and play a limited run in the same format and layout, this edition was soon exhausted and the next too. The most curious thing about this whole story is that the band has their own pirated bootleg - without knowing the author of piracy - generating a new and hilarious as the Brazilian phonographic market. The fact is that 33 years later, A Chave hacked your own pirate. Groundbreaking case. Not Dylan, with all his bootlegs had thought of that, he chose to release them officially.

Ivo Rodrigues (guitarra e vocal)
Paulino de Oliveira (guitarra e vocal)
Carlão Gaertner (baixo)

VENENO RARO E RECOMENDADO!!

Only known for the one single in 1968 “Ice Cream Tree” /”Julius Caesar” on Mercury, (and largely misunderstood from this to be a ‘pop’ act), Birmingham’s Breakthru were in fact one of the loudest, hairiest and most exciting ‘psychedelic’ rock bands of their time. However, they could create soulful, sensitive or just plain ‘catchy’ sounds too. Young and very fashionable, many audiences had seen nothing like them. They took their wild stage show, complete with smoke and lights, all over Great Britain: Playing many of London’s most important clubs of the day in the process, such as “Happening 44”, “The Electric Garden”, “Blaises” and “The Marquee”.

They also were resident at a club in Switzerland for a time, and made a big impression at Plumpton’s 1969 “National Jazz and Blues Festival”.This is their first complete album, and gathers together all their surviving recordings. Despite the sole single release, the band recorded much material from 1967 to 1970. Included here are their cancelled second Mercury 45 “Peer Gynt”/”Troubleshoot”, alongside 10 other unreleased titles, and one which only made a brief appearance on a contemporary compilation. The vinyl L.P. has been put together to show the band as the ex-members would like best to be remembered.

The ‘E.P.’ disc contains their single release, alongside "I Have A Dream", which we couldn't quite fit on the main album.Together, these show the band’s wide musical range in full. In the overcrowded, constantly re-cycling ‘60s reissue market, this is new, fresh and largely unheard, restored as far as possible from original tapes and acetates. In development for over a year, this L.P. gives something different to the seasoned collector and curious ‘adventurer’ alike.

As for the "Adventures Highway" album itself, this was assembled from a combination of unreleased-demos, BBC sessions, and surviving recordings from the results of various excursions into the studio by the group between 1967 and 1970. Side one kicks off with the high-energy group-composed Believe It from 1970. You can just imagine the band going all out on this one with its high-energy blues-driven attack. Here Comes The End from 1967 is a lot more psychedelic sounding with abundant echo effects but still very powerful. The bluesy cover of Willie Dixon's Spoonful really gives an indication of what Breakthru were all about. Gary Aflalo's blues-harmonica playing on this one is exceptional against a backdrop of thundering hammond organ and distorted guitars. If you really hate your neighbours then this is the one to play loud!

The Monks - Black Monk Time (1966 German Garage Rock)

BANDA ALEMÃ FORMADA POR AMERICANOS RADICADOS NA ALEMANHA!! SOM GARAGEIRO, VISCERAL, COM CERTO PRIMITIVISMO E COMANDADO UM POR UM ORGAN (DRIVING) CORRENDO SOLTO, DANDO UM CLIMA PSICODÉLICO AO SOM!! LETRAS CURTAS E AGRESSIVAS!!

On paper, it's hard to imagine a couplet that looks less like an opener for one of the best albums of the 1960s. When you hear it barked out by Monks lead vocalist Gary Burger over an otherworldly groove, though, it's an unlikely call to arms, and an immediate auditory stamp for one of the most strikingly original bands of the mid-60s. The band's sole studio album, released only in Germany in March 1966, has since become something of a legend, hailed as a precursor to punk and krautrock, and exerting influence far beyond its modest initial sales. Obscurities that routinely bathe in glowing praise naturally engender skepticism among people who haven't yet heard them, and often that skepticism is healthy. In the case of the Monks, though, all the praise is true: in 1966, Black Monk Time was beyond the cutting edge, and today it's easy to hear what made it so innovative and challenging.

The Monks were five Americans living in West Germany. They came there as G.I.s, stationed near Heidelberg in the southwestern Baden-Württemberg region, and the Monks began life inauspiciously as the 5 Torquays, a run-of-the-mill beat group that covered Chuck Berry and the latest English groups, drawing good local crowds. When their time in the Army was up, they stayed, but beneath the conventional exterior of the Torquays lay a group hungry to experiment and break the mold of beat music. They accidentally discovered guitar feedback during a rehearsal, and made it a part of their sound, to the dismay of club owners and some patrons. Their apparent willingness to experiment brought them to the attention of two German ad executives, Walther Niemann and Karl Remy, who the band took on as managers, and who would fundamentally reshape the band's image and sound.

THIS GROUP WAS FORMED IN 1965 AND EXTINCT BY 1968!! HERE ARE ALL THE SONGS EVER RECORDED BY THIS GROUP!!

Acid-punk outfit William Penn and His Pals formed at the College of San Mateo in late 1964; originally dubbed the DiscCounts, the founding lineup comprised singer Neil Holtmann, guitarist Mike Dunn, bassist Steve Sweet and drummer Ron Cox. Keyboardist Dave Lovell signed on in early 1965, and a few months later the group significantly overhauled its lineup and look--adopting the moniker William Penn and His Pals, the band (now Holtmann, Cox, Lovell, guitarist Mike Shapiro and bassist Steve Leidenthal) adopted Revolutionary War-era stage garb that included ruffled shirts and tri-cornered hats. The addition of former Nomads guitarist Jack Shelton swelled the roster to a six-piece, and for a short time, the lineup also included a second drummer, Mickey Hart, who would later sign on with the Grateful Dead. In early 1966 keyboardist Gregg Rolie replaced Lovell--in time he assumed the lion's share of vocal duties as well, resulting in Holtmann's dismissal from the group. William Penn and His Pals were a regular presence on the Bay Area live scene, opening for the Jefferson Airplane, Paul Revere and the Raiders and Them; in 1966, they cut their lone single “Swami" (credited to the William Penn Fyve), later anointed an underground classic thanks to its inclusion on the third Pebbles collection. A deal with the Fantasy label was pending, but in 1967 the group dissolved, with Rolie subsequently joining Santana. In 2003, the BeatRecords.com label collected all of William Penn and His Pals' recorded output on CD. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
