ERTLIFF - Ertliff (1972 Switzerland Hard Prog Psych Rock)

RARIDADE MÁXIMA!!
MAXIMUM RARITY!!

REPOSTAGEM DESSE VENENO SUIÇO RARO E DE UMA BANDA OBSCURA QUE FAZIA UM HARD ROCK PROGRESSIVO COM ALGUMA INCURSÕES NO HARD BLUES E NO PSICODELISMO, TUDO REGADO COM PODEROSOS VOCAIS, ORGAN, PIANO, MELLOTRON, UMA BOA SEÇÃO DE PERCUSSÃO A BASE DE TAMBOR, VIOLÕES HARMONIZADOS E CANÇÕES BEM ESTRUTURADAS!!  ERTLIFF INFLUENCIOU OUTRAS BANDAS COMO A TOAD E KROKUS, SENDO QUE COM A TOAD FEZ ATÉ UMA TURNÊ QUE LEVOU A BANDA A ASSINAR UM CONTRATO EM TEMPO RECORDE NA SUIÇA!! EM TRÊS DIAS ASSINARAM E GRAVARAM O ALBUM!! VENENO SUIÇO ALTAMENTE RECOMENDADO PELO SOM E PELA RARIDADE!!

This is a high quality LP reissue with respect to the music, including an 8 page booklet with detailed background information and tons of pictures, making the album even more complete than it ever was before. Ertlif was named after a mystic alchemist from the 12th century, whose last copies of works were lost in the bombing by the allies of Köln and Dresden during the second Worldwar. The band had a very attractive sound reminding me slightly of the wizardry and magicianship of the often underestimated 70’s band Uriah Heep. The powerful, emotional vocals, psychedelic organ and some piano, a good drum and handpercussion section, acoustic guitars harmonized and melted beautifully together into beautifully structured songs.

Ertlif were one of the first bands in Switzerland using some subtle virtuosity on keyboard & mellotron. This sound I guess must have influenced a handful of other Swiss bands (Deaf,..). They became part of the more hardrock influenced bands like Krokus and Toad. After a tour with Toad Ertlif became one of the few Swiss bands then who obtained a record contract in Switzerland, which was recorded in august 1972, in three days. Just a handful of tracks on this album are more obvious bluesy hardrock, but the organ parts and structural changes with varied parts makes these tracks different and more ambitious. The song “Classical Woman” is a highlight from the album and is very symphonic. It shows the band at it’s best : a very emotional song with beautiful organ arrangements and building and opening up beautifully rhythmically with organ, drums, acoustic guitar. It also has a very surreal kind of psychedelic rhythmical & electric guitar/keyboards part, some beautiful mellotron, and some organ. The song “Plastic Queen” was recorded in 1973 with a new member (violin, piano) for a compilation album, and is another longer track. For this track the arrangements sound slightly denser. The organ and mellotron here is a bit more adapted into the hardrock/progrock band's sound. We have a short electric guitar solo. This was the band’s only track from later date.

The record was reissued on CD before by the Swiss Black Rills label in 1994, with one track in a different order. An unreleased demo track from 1971 is added to the LP. It shows a raw recording of the band, with a more simple bluesy song but similar arrangements of vocals, and moving glue organ, and some potential.

Richard John Rusinski - Vocals, 12-string Guitar
James Mosberger - Organ, Mellotron, Piano
Teddy Riedo - Bass, Synthesizer

THE WAY WE LIVE - A Candle For Judith (1971 Hard Prog Folk-Rock)

EU GOSTO MUITO DESSE ALBUM!!
I LIKE MUCH THIS ALBUM!!

BANDA FORMADA EM 1971 E QUE DEPOIS MUDOU O NOME PARA TRACTOR!! PODEMOS CONSIDERAR ESSE O UNICO DISCO DA "THE WAY WE LIVE" OU ENTÃO O PRIMEIRO DISCO DA TRACTOR!! ESSA POSTAGEM É A EDIÇÃO REMASTERIZADA E COM VÁRIOS BONUS TRACKS!! A SONORIDADE É UMA INTERESSANTE MISTURA QUE PASSEIA PELO FOLK, PSICODELIA, ACID E HARD ROCK COM INSTRUMENTAL MUITO BEM FEITO, PRINCIPALMENTE SE LEVARMOS EM CONTA QUE APENAS DOIS MUSICOS FAZEM O SOM POR AQUI!! POSTAGEM PARA COLOCAR JUSTIÇA NESSE BOM ALBUM QUE MERECIA ESTAR ENTRE OS VENENOS!!

It’s probably splitting hairs to refer to this as either the sole album from the group The Way We Live, or the first Tractor album. The album is really both, and neither. In any case the original is impossible to find today, but the reissue CD with bonus material is easy to find (although, despite the claims on the liner notes advertising, Ozit Morpheus recordings are probably NOT on the shelf at your “local record store”).

As for the music, there is an interesting mix of sounds here, ranging from rather straightforward hard rock to folk to psych, but all amazing considering the richness of sounds that came out of just two guys. The opening “King Dick II” sounds a bit like an early Black Sabbath bluesy recording to me, but with more like a Paul Rodgers era Bad Company-sounding vocal. This is probably the heaviest song on the record, and while the instrumentation is very well done, overall its just average. A few extra points for some very lively electric guitar, what sounds like dueling basses, and Corky Laing-like dirge inspired drums. The band shifts almost 180 degrees for “Squares”, a staid, mellow and acoustic acid folk number with an inspired electric bass line. The first few times I heard this I thought it was outdated tripe, with nonsensical and bong-inspired lyrics like

Jim Milne - lead guitar, 6-string acoustic, 12-string electric rhythm guitar, all vocals
Steve Clayton - drums, tambourine, piano, flute, bongos

01. King Dick II
02. Squares
03. Siderial
04. Angle
05. Storm
06. Willow
07. Madrigal
08. The Way Ahead

MAIS INFORMAÇÕES SOBRE A BANDA AQUI:
MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE BAND HERE:
http://www.milesago.com/Artists/Blackfeather.htm

Recorded live at Melbourne Town Hall and Q Club, September 1972!!
Blackfeather were one of the most popular and successful groups of the early '70s, and produced one of the landmark Aussie progressive rock albums, but a major split early in the group's history disabled what should have been a promising career for founder John Robinson. As indicated by the huge personnel listing above, there was a bewildering series of lineup changes, with Blackfeather going through at least six major incarnations between 1970 and 1983, with a huge personnel list for each version. The list is a veritable 'Who's Who' of the 70s rock scene. However it's the first two lineups - 'Mark I', who made At The Mountains Of Madness and 'Mark II' who recorded "Boppin' The Blues" - that are the best known. Blackfeather (Mk I) formed in April 1970 with the original lineup being John Robinson (gtr), Neale Johns (vcls), Leith Corbett (bs) and Mike McCormack (dr). All but Johns had come straight from the split of the highly-rated Dave Miller Set, who were one of NSW's most popular live groups in the late 60s, and whose classic version of "Mr Guy Fawkes" was Go-Set's pick for the Best Single of 1969.
