Um pouco da história dos caras:
Doctor Feelgood evoluiu da cena musical de North Shore de Boston no início dos anos 60, com Cooper, Corelle e Winters tendo tocado na banda de rock The Sensations. Mais tarde, essa banda evoluiu para Teddy And The Pandas, lançando alguns singles no Musicor e eventualmente assinando com o selo Capitol's Tower para gravar um álbum. Tocando principalmente covers, junto com alguns originais, eles conseguiram muitos shows em bailes de escolas locais. Mas descobrindo que havia outra banda chamada Sensations, uma mudança de nome foi sugerida. Olhando em um dicionário, foi Cooper quem criou os Pandas, e foi uma decisão do grupo colocar o nome de Teddy Dewart na frente dele. Cooper logo saiu, substituído pelo baterista Jerry Labrecque.
Os shows nos colégios logo se transformaram em shows universitários e em clube. Com isso a banda viajou por toda a Nova Inglaterra, melhorando sua atuação no palco, por exemplo, contratando um coreógrafo para ensiná-los alguns bons movimentos de palco. Então eles conheceram o promotor Bruce Patch, que acabaria sendo seu produtor depois de insistir que reduzissem a banda a um quinteto. Para isso se livraram de Paul Daly. Uma visita em 1965 ao Ace Recording Studio, em Boston, resultou em duas canções originais: "Once Upon a Time" com "Bye Bye (Out the Window)". O álbum - primeiro pelo selo Coristine, depois relançado pela Musicor - foi um sucesso local na WBZ e WMEX, e a banda começou a conseguir algumas datas fora da Nova Inglaterra, mas teve pouca atençãio nas paradas nacionais. Quando alguns singles seguintes não decolaram, eles se separaram da Musicor. Logo gravaram o álbum de 10 canções, de 1968, Basic Magnetism, na subsidiária da Capitol, Tower Records.
Dewart deixou a banda para ir para a faculdade e foi substituído pelo guitarrista Paul Rivers, mas Dewart contribuiu para o álbum e recebeu o crédito de "artista convidado". O álbum não deu em nada e, em 1969, Corelle e Rivers saíram para formar a banda Doctor Feelgood, reunindo-se com os membros do Sensations, Winters e Cooper, lançando um álbum, de 1971, Something To Take Up Time. Esse foi o fim dos Pandas.
A formação da Dr. Feelgood foi completada com dois dos Sensations originais, o saxofonista Dick Winters e o baterista Ralph Cooper. Na época, ambos eram membros de outro grupo de North Shore, os Warlocks. “Eles deixaram os Warlocks e nós deixamos os Pandas para começar nossa própria banda”, diz Corelle. “Quando Paul e eu partimos, os Pandas não nos substituíram. Eles simplesmente pararam de tocar.”
Dr. Feelgood fez shows em New England por cerca de três anos, então se separou quando um acordo com a Epic Records fracassou. Eles gravaram esse ótimo álbum “Something to Take Up Time”, com o produtor Larry Patch em um selo independente. Corelle fala muito bem das contribuições de Winter para esse álbum. “Dickie aprendeu a flauta, além de sax tenor e soprano”, diz ele. “Ele tocava dois saxofones ao mesmo tempo. Não havia muitos (músicos) que tocassem dois ao mesmo tempo. Ele fez muitos solos assim no álbum. Foi incrível."

A little history of the guys:
Doctor Feelgood evolved out of Boston's North Shore music scene in the early 1960s, with Cooper, Corelle and Winters having played in the rock band The Sensations. This band later evolved into Teddy And The Pandas, releasing a few singles on Musicor and eventually signing to Capitol's Tower label to record an album. Playing mostly covers, along with a few originals, they landed many gigs at local school dances. But discovering that there was another band called Sensations, a name change was suggested. Looking in a dictionary, it was Cooper who created the Pandas, and it was a group decision to put Teddy Dewart's name in front of him. Cooper soon left, replaced by drummer Jerry Labrecque.
High school shows soon turned into college and club shows. With that the band toured all over New England, improving their stage act, for example by hiring a choreographer to teach them some good stage moves. Then they met promoter Bruce Patch, who would end up being their producer after insisting that they reduce the band to a five-piece. That's why they got rid of Paul Daly. A 1965 visit to Ace Recording Studio in Boston resulted in two original songs: "Once Upon a Time" backed with "Bye Bye (Out the Window)". The album - first on the Coristine label, then re-released on Musicor - was a local hit on WBZ and WMEX, and the band started to get a few dates outside of New England, but got little attention on the national charts. When a few follow-up singles didn't take off, they parted ways with Musicor. They soon recorded the 1968 10-song album Basic Magnetism on Capitol subsidiary Tower Records.
Dewart left the band to go to college and was replaced by guitarist Paul Rivers, but Dewart contributed to the album and received a "guest artist" credit. The album went nowhere, and in 1969 Corelle and Rivers left to form the band Doctor Feelgood, reuniting with Sensations members Winters and Cooper, releasing an album, 1971's Something To Take Up Time. That was the end of the Pandas.
The formation of Dr. Feelgood was completed with two of the original Sensations, saxophonist Dick Winters and drummer Ralph Cooper. At the time, both were members of another North Shore group, the Warlocks. “They left the Warlocks and we left the Pandas to start our own band,” says Corelle. “When Paul and I left, the Pandas didn't replace us. They just stopped playing.”
doctor Feelgood played shows in New England for about three years, then disbanded when a deal with Epic Records fell through. They recorded this great album “Something to Take Up Time” with producer Larry Patch on an independent label. Corelle speaks highly of Winter's contributions to this album. “Dickie learned the flute, as well as tenor and soprano sax,” he says. “He played two saxophones at the same time. There weren't many (musicians) who played two at the same time. He did a lot of solos like that on the album. It was amazing."
