This is a long lost gem from 1968 by a little known, somewhat psychedelic group called Bo Grumpus. Originally issued on Atco Records. 180 gram vinyl. Bo Grumpus was formed in Boston in 1967 and are not to be confused with the group using the name in the 1990s-2000s. N.D. Smart and Jim Colegrove traveled from Ohio to team up with guitarists, Eddie Mottau and Joe Hutchinson. Eddie and Joe had performed as a duo in the mid-sixties called Two Guys From Boston. They had done some recording with Noel "Paul" Stookey as their producer but had only one single released on the Scepter label. Over all, this sounds a lot like a series of jams, played with friends dropping by to play, of course it helps that his friends are members of Guru Guru, Cluster and Kraan! The whole thing is very relaxed. It reminds a lot of Mani Neumier's album "Mani und Seine Freunde" which came out the same year and had a lot of the same musicians. Since it's a collection of improvisations, there's no real focus and the songs amble from one style to another. The best track is 'Kosmische Phyrze', a gentle rock-guitar based instrumental. The band was founded in 1964 in The Hague by the name Klits and renamed Group 1850 in 1966, when their debut single, "Misty Night" / "Look Around", appeared on the tiny Yep label. Though few copies were pressed, it established them as one of The Netherlands most original bands (alongside the Outsiders and Q65) and they soon signed to Philips. More singles ensued, in a highly psychedelic vein, including the "Mother No Head". Their debut album, Agemo's Trip To Mother Earth, appeared in late 1968. In The Netherlands its sleeve had a 3-D image on the cover, and came with a pair of 3-D glasses.
